Question

Week 1 discussion

Review the two parts of the final project. Part I is due in Module Three. For Part II, you will complete weekly assignments from Modules Three through Seven, which you will use to create your final project due in Module Seven. There is a single milestone due in Module Five for Part II of the final project. It is important to get started now and stay on top of your assignments.

Each student must choose a different country, so in the discussion post, identify the two countries of your choice. It will be first come, first served, so get your post in early. Tell what countries you have chosen and why these countries seem intriguing.

Post any questions you have about this project to the General Questions forum.

Week 2 discussion

For your initial post, compare and contrast Hofstede’s dimensions of culture, GLOBE cultural dimensions, and Trompenaars' value dimensions. Describe the managerial implications of each set and which you would prefer to use if you were a manager of a cultural team. Present the reasons for your preference. Describe at least three examples of situations in which your choice of cultural theory would be helpful while working with your culturally diverse team. What does the cultural theory you have chosen tell you about your country?

For your two responses to your peers, compare and contrast their responses to yours. Describe how their reasoning differs from yours on the choice of cultural theory.

Week 3 discussion

There are many different negotiation styles based on regions and country cultures and laws. Discuss the negotiation process in general, and then discuss how you believe negotiations would be handled in your countries. What areas do you see as potential problem areas when they are in negotiation with the United States? How would issues be resolved? What approach do your countries take to decision making? How is this different from what would be done in the United States?

In your responses to your peers, compare and contrast their countries’ findings on negotiations and decision making with your countries’ results.

Week 4 discussion

Analyze the rise of emerging markets and how they impact strategic decision making. Outline the typical stages and considerations a company would go through when making a strategic decision. Include the merits of the various entry strategies discussed in Chapter 6. What would be the best choice for entering your country and the role your country would play in the integrative global strategy?

For your two responses to your peers, compare and contrast their entry strategies chosen for their countries and roles played by both countries in the integrative global strategy to yours. Describe why the differences exist.

Week 5 discussion

Explain what you need to consider when designing an organizational strategy and corporate structure for an international operation and evaluate the importance of the variables, including such things as geographic dispersion, time zones challenges, language, cultural attitudes, and business practices associated with the overall design.

For your two responses to your peers, compare and contrast their considerations with your own. Evaluate why differences exist in your posts and what ramifications that has on the design of the organizational structure.

Week 6 discussion

Evaluate the issues that can be encountered when staffing internationally. What differences would there be between a developed and a developing market? Describe the characteristics you would find in a virtual global team. Discuss and give examples of what can be done to make them more successful.

In the responses to two of your peers, discuss the differences between your posts on the issues and the characteristics found in a virtual global team, as well as the variations in your examples.

Week 7 discussion

Watch Ray Anderson’s video on the business logic of sustainability. Discuss the implications of who or what will lead business and industry into global sustainability. Identify a company that has become a “recovering plunderer” of global resources. Finally, discuss your thoughts on the Big H for happiness in the New Civilization equation and how this affects industry.

Respond to two of your peers’ posts. Compare and contrast your peers’ research and your research on who or what will have a greater ability to lead business and industry into global sustainability. Compare and contrast your thoughts on the Big H in the New Civilization equation.

Week 8 discussion

Explain what is meant by a "global mindset" and what traits and qualities this includes. Discuss the theory of contingency leadership and what role culture plays. Evaluate how Hofstede’s cultural dimensions (individualism, power distance, uncertainty avoidance, and masculinity) impact the leader-worker relationship globally. Which would you choose as the most important? Using the same four dimensions, which do you think are the most important with regard to global motivation?

In your two responses to your peers, compare and contrast their responses to their definitions and traits associated with global mindset and their choices of Hofstede’s dimensions with regard to the leader-worker relationships and motivation in a global environment to yours. What conclusions can you draw from these differences?

Week 8 discussion 2

Share your Final Project Part II with your peers. Respond by commenting on any revelations in any two of your peers’ projects.
