Question

Assignment:

Form your analysis of the Erickson article to be posted in a discussion forum. Be sure to address all the following questions in your analysis:

1.What are the results of the Erickson et al. study? Concisely summarize the results. How useful do you think the results are for managers and leaders? Explain and use a specific example to prove your point!

2.Explain Benoit’s typology in light of your textbook author’s approach and description of crisis communication. Compare Benoit and O’Rourke.

3.Can you apply Benoit’s typology to the ODWALLA case study? Why? Why not? Explain and use an example!

4.Give an example of a company (can be the one you work for) that used one of the non-corrective communication strategies described in the Erickson study. Explain the outcome. Are non-corrective communication strategies unethical? Why or why not?

5.SAMSUNG, the high-end smartphone maker, encountered huge challenges as it tried to respond to consumer questions about its Galaxy Note 7s (see: http://www.npr.org/sections/alltechconsidered/2016/10/18/497949435/in-samsung-s-messy-phone-recall-lack-of-transparency-takes-center-stage). To familiarize yourself with the case, find a YouTube clip or another article on the web that describes the roots of the problem. SAMSUNG’s reputation is based on producing unique, critically acclaimed phones. One of the challenges for SAMSUNG is dealing with its plummeting reputation. How can effective crisis communication save its reputation? What mistakes have already been made? Can you answer the question by applying Benoit’s and/or O’Rourke’s approaches to crisis communication? Why or why not?

Cite your sources, including your textbook, in APA style (the OWL has good examples of online citations: http://owl.english.purdue.edu/owl/resource/560/06/). The answer will not be accepted if you do not cite the textbook and external sources.

Cite all your sources in APA style!

GUIDELINES:
-Discussion post content reflects full understanding of core concepts and applies core concepts accurately.
-Discussion post displays significant depth of analysis, provides significant insight not otherwise offered and relates to assigned topic.
-Discussion post mostly incorporates specific content and examples from course material to competently substantiate independent points and ideas. Reasoned implications and conclusions are also clearly and accurately identified.
-Discussion post accurately incorporates external sources which were researched independently related to the topic. Uses APA format and style for references and citations of external sources.
– Language used in discussion post is clear, concise and easy to understand. Content has few to no grammatical or spelling errors.
-Writing mechanics:
*Minimal errors (3 or fewer).
*Easy to read (shorter) paragraphs.
*Logical flow to presentation of information.
*Proper citation where appropriate.

GENERAL EXPECTATIONS FOR ASSIGNMENT:
-Excellent assignment responses will indicate that you have read the course material and comprehend it fully, but will also demonstrate relevance to the topic and/or questions and will ultimately provide some “value added”.
-Participation quality can be enhanced and improved by linking work and life experiences to the topic at hand, referring and/or linking to previously discussed concepts, providing full justifications for arguments and avoiding minimalist responses (e.g. “I agree” or “I don’t think so” or “may be”).
-Participation quantity and quality are integral for assignments. While you are required to meet both quantity (word count) and quality standards, a qualitatively sound response is of paramount importance.
-In order to earn an accepted answer for assignments, your responses must be consistent with a level of depth commensurate with that of a master’s level student.
-You should clearly and thoroughly address every question asked of you with the appropriate amount of detail that removes any ambiguity about your position on an issue.
– Engaging in analytical thinking is a must at this level as it demonstrates an understanding of each side of an issue well enough to impartially think on both sides of the issue.
– Be sure to also use relevant external sources to support your arguments as your opinion on an issue is simply an opinion and not evidence.
-Be accurate when you use information as evidence and incorporate relevant course information as justification for your arguments.
-Please ensure that your responses do not include spelling and grammatical errors – use spellcheck or other software programs if need be.

Discussion Posts:
Response goes beyond creative response related to the course material and, for example, shows the relationship between the concepts discussed in the book and the theoretical approach explained in the journal article – and applies and evaluates that relationship in light of the assigned case study; or response includes web page or other source, demonstrating how its content relates to the course material and how the course material can be evaluated based on the external sources. In-text citation and references are correctly cited in APA style.

Please read ALL instructions carefully before constructing your answer. Please note the answer will be extensivelychecked for any and all forms of plagiarism before accepted.
