This report should assess the impact of external business environmental factors on the organization and evaluate the organization’s position and responses. In the case of a large organization it is permissible to confine your report to part of the organization. An organization’s activities may range beyond the designated industrial sector in which case the focus of your report must be on the organization’s activities within the designated sector.

Task 1
Give a brief overview of the primary external influences to which the organization is subject and briefly explain the particular importance of each to the organization. This first task should contribute no more than one third of your overall report.

Task 2
Choose one of the following themes:

1. The changing competitive environment
2. Globalization and barriers to globalization
3. Cultural differences and/or cultural change
4. “Knowledge management”

In relation to your chosen theme
i. analyse its relevance to your chosen organization and how it influences policies and decision-making within your chosen organization or industry-sector.
ii. critically evaluate the effectiveness of the organization’s response.

iii. (if possible and appropriate) demonstrate some areas for improvement in the response of the organization.

Guidance notes:

Whatever organization you choose and whichever theme you chose, you must clearly demonstrate knowledge and understanding from research and reading wider than that contained in the module pack and core textbook. This is a REPORT and so must be presented in business report format and style. You must also structure your report to cover the tasks including points 2.i to 2.iii above. This is an academic piece of work therefore you are expected to link theory and practice. You should take care to ensure that the work you submit has a high standard of presentation. This is an individual assignment. You must acknowledge your sources of information and evidence using the Harvard referencing system. All assignments are subject to the University’s regulations on collusion and plagiarism and must be submitted in electronic form for checking on SunSpace for Turnitin and the Turnitin report must be submitted to JIRA along with your assignment.

Write and submit a report, focused on your career development, covering the elements below:
1. Critically analyse a) theories relating to the nature of careers and career management and b) the required graduate employability skills within a chosen job role or career
2. Drawing on self-awareness tools, critically evaluate the extent to which the chosen job role or career is a good fit for you, demonstrating your strengths as well as areas to develop.
3. Present a 2-3 year action plan to indicate how you might enhance your skills in order to develop a career in a chosen sector / job role
In your assignment you should:
• Draw on a range of research literature to examine the concepts of employability and careers

• Give examples of the use of employability skills in currently advertised graduate job roles within a job role or career you are interested in pursuing. Amongst other things, you can question what themes emerge, what the skills identified tell you about the role, and how do the employability skills identified relate to employability models.

• When evaluating the extent to which the chosen job role or career is a good fit for you, you should focus on employability skills but could also draw on values, passion, interests.

• Show evidence to back up this evaluation, e.g. the application of self-evaluation tools that we have used in class (e.g. MBTI) as well as other tools, feedback from other modules, employer feedback. (my MBTI result is “ISFJ Personality (The Defender)”)

• Identify a minimum of three actions you will undertake to develop or enhance your employability skills to work in the sector / job role identified in section (a).

• Ensure that these actions are based on SMART principles (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic, Timebound).

Additional information:
• The chosen job role or career that you identify can be a graduate job role, however, it could also be a role that is not typically part of a graduate scheme (e.g. if you want to set up your own business). The main thing is that it is relevant to what you are intending to pursue after graduation.
• Whilst this report has three elements, it should be presented as a coherent report with a narrative thread throughout.
• The action plan should be in the main body of the assignment (not in the Appendices, as these are not marked). Since it should build on the development needs identified, there is no need to have an additional commentary regarding the Action Plan.
• Appendices can be used for evidence, e.g. job roles advertised, MBTI profile, etc.

Presenting coursework for assessment
Your assignment must be presented in the following format:
• It must be word-processed in 11 point Arial font and double-spaced
• All pages must be numbered
• Margins must be as follows: Top: 1 inch, Bottom: 1 inch (2.5 cm), Left: 1.25 inches, Right: 1.25 inches (3.2 cm)
There is a 10% rule on this assignment for the word count.

I know this might be hard to do as you do not know me but I hope that you can get the best out of it. You will basically have to make up a lot of stuff. Just some small information about me if it will help you: I am a male, so it would be better to write about something suited for men, also I might work in a bank in the future, or somewhere in that area. My MBTI result is ISFJ, The Defender. This information maybe will help you, however if you have a better idea feel free to do so.
