Utilitarian Theory Research

Part I:

1) Utilitarian Theory.

2) Research the Utilitarian theory using at least one academic journal, two other sources, and the textbook (Contemporary Issues in Bioethics, Beauchamp 2016) as source material. You must cite to all your sources using apa academic citation style.

3) Draft a summary describing the Utilitarian theory, including: its history/origins, framework or method for resolving moral dilemmas, and the strengths and weaknesses of that theory for resolving moral dilemmas in the healthcare or early education fields.

 

Part I must be at least 2, but not more than 3 pages.

 

Part II:

4)Research and select at least one academic journal article where the Utilitarian theory was used by an author to advance or critique a position related to healthcare or early childhood education. This can be one of the articles you relied on for part one or another one.

5)Draft a summary of the article, including the issue being discussed, the author’s purpose for writing, and the author’s argument. Here, students must explain how the author used the Utilitarian theory in support of his/her position, noting the use of any ethical principles from chapter one of Contemporary Issues in Bioethics, Beauchamp 2016 as well.

6)Draft a specific critique or defense of the author’s argument. Here, the student must rely on the ethical principles from chapter one of Contemporary Issues in Bioethics, Beauchamp 2016 as well as an ethical theory to defend their position. Students must articulate how the theory and principles justify their conclusion.

 

Part II must be at least 3, but not more than 4 pages.
