Terrorist groups have specific identities that can be seen through variables. These variables are not limited to Ideology, strategy, tactics, financing, recruiting, targets, specific areas of operations, etc.

Research Proposal #1

 

This research proposal assignment is based on the topic of the first wave of modern terrorism, psychological aspects, and motivation of terrorists. Use a specific terrorist group as it will help you throughout all the assignments.

 

The assignment calls for three sections.

 

1. The introduction. This section should discuss the background, research question, hypothesis, and purpose. You might not have all of these elements, for example, you might not have a hypothesis, but a research question can still guide your research. The section should be about 2 pages.

 

2. Initial Literature Review. The lit review should have about 5 sections. A lit review intro discussing criteria for sources (include themes or variables). Use the themes/variables as sub-headers to organize the sources used. A lit review conclusion synthesizing the sources and identifying gaps from literature to the research question. For the initial lit review, 5-6 sources should be used. Use scholarly and credible sources and references. The section should be about 3-4 pages

 

3. Methodology. Discuss the method and type of research that will be used to collect data on the gaps discussed in the lit review conclusion. Discuss how data will be collected. Discuss how each theme/variable is evaluated or measured. The section should be about 2 pages.

 

4. Total pages: 7-8 – 1in margins, Type in Times New Roman, 12 pt. font and double space.

 

5. Points will be deducted for the use of Wikipedia or encyclopedic type sources. It is highly advised to utilize books, peer-reviewed journals, articles, archived documents, etc.

 

6. Point will be deducted for the synthesis of knowledge, knowledge of the topic, application of knowledge, organization, grammar, and spelling.
