Now for the activity… Research a social movement that you are interested in learning more about. This can be a current, recent, or historical movement such as the ones discussed in this week’s materials or another of your choice.

For this discussion forum only, you may utilize Wikipedia as a source for the social movement, as Wikipedia is helpful in gaining general knowledge on a topic (please be sure to refrain from using this as a source when peer-reviewed and academic sources are required!). You are also encouraged to go to the official website for the social movement if one exists (such as Standing Rock: http://standingrock.org, Occupy: http://occupywallst.org/about/ and BLM: http://blacklivesmatter.com) to gain more information from the source.

Once you have researched the social movement of your choice, ponder the following questions for your initial post. Be sure to include the website(s) that you have used for your research, and do steer clear of biased opinion sources (except for the official websites for the groups).

Let us know some of the information that you found which is pertinent to our course topic this week from the social movement you have researched. How does it fit with the concepts this week?
What are the social movement’s main goals for social change?
How has the social movement used resource mobilization and tactics to promote the cause?
What is the outcome? Give some ideas on how the social movement has or has not led to social change or what may be foreseen in the future. Use examples to explain this.

Use information from the textbook and other required materials this week to draw connections while you critically examine the social movement. Cite the required materials at least 3 times in the initial post and once in each peer response. For peer responses, work to dive deeper into the topic with each other, making connections across social movements by comparing and contrasting them or deepening understanding of one social movement.
