reflection about Slavery and the Making of America

This reflection requires you to compare and contrast perspectives, between Rivoli, author of the T-Shirt book, and the perspective of the Video.  What do you make of Rivoli’s “moral failure, but economic success” perspective, where she seems at times to justify slavery because it allowed the early US to capture market share from non-slavery nations like India and Egypt?  Is slavery OK if it led to US economic dominance?  How would the development of the US have been different if slavery had been make illegal in 1776, rather than 1865?  How should we feel about our slavery heritage of 89 years after independence?  If ending slavery would have made the US less powerful and wealthy, does the wealth justify the moral failure?
