2 PAGE WRITING ASSIGNMENT: MY THEORY OF HUMAN NATURE Due Date: Saturday of Week #2, by 11:59PM
Points Possible: 100 (10%)
Leadership is all about impacting others, influencing those around us. One of the irreducible truths about
leadership is that it is relational in nature: it is about human interaction. Each of us hold certain things to
be true about the people around us. How we interact with others around us (including our decisions
made from our various roles) is predicated on what we believe to be true about people. In other words,
while many may have never thought to consider exactly what is believed, we all function on some theory
of human nature.
For many, this may be the first time exploring this idea of what one actually holds to be true about human
nature and what it means for our assessment of our own decision making and behavior, and that of
others. Take time with this paper and consider your own thoughts unrushed, and with due respect. The
key purpose for this assignment is to help see the assumptions brought into any deliberative process
engaged in by the student.
In this assignment, you will: Write a two-page reflective paper (double spaced) in which you discuss,
You personal theory of human nature
Include exmaples and ideas you have learned
Address how this theory has functioned in your decision-making (this may not be obvious at first,
and so you may need to spend some times reflecting) (think of a time you were surprised)
Current APA format/guidelines are expected (exception: there is no cover page required for this
assignment). Ideas/questions to consider:
1.
2.
3.
4.
5. Why do I do what I do?
Why do others do what they do?
What do I think about how people make decisions?
Are people basically good or bad?
One way to start thinking of this topic is by considering what human behavior would be like if
there were no rules. How would decisions be made, would they be made? What would things
like leadership and ethics look like in a world of no rules?
