Question
As a Wall Street professional who has recently received some solid training in behavioral finance through FIN 645, you have been asked by the M&A Roundtable West, a regional networking organization for M&A professionals, to speak at their next annual gathering in San Francisco. Specifically, the organizers have asked you to conduct a workshop on the behavioral aspects of mergers and acquisitions (M&As); including, though not limited to, Valuation/Pricing issues related to M&As. Your task includes sharing with the attendees what you have learned in this Behavioral Finance class on M&As and the effects that an M&A may have on both the Acquirer and the Target company.
Your presentation should include both qualitative and quantitative aspects of the issue, along with any quantitative example that may further clarify the key issues covered. The quantitative examples should illuminate and explain issues like synergies, premiums, etc. and their effects on the resultant Valuation/Pricing of an M&A. For synergies for example you first need to define how synergies are calculated; same goes for premiums and so on so forth. Aside from the related materials and examples given in your book(s) you may also use and refer to the Heinz deal as covered in the PDF file and as attached along with this exam. Finally and as your final responsibility, the organizers have also asked you to provide them with a complete copy of your presentation in both a Word file and an Excel file. Their plan is to publish the Word file in an upcoming issue of their newsletter, M&A Quarterly.
