METAMORPHOSIS
The differentiation results in the formation of larva / infant.
The formation of adult from the larva / infant is called as metamorphosis.
The metamorphosis is a complex process which is controlled by the hormones.
Two types of metamorphosis –
(i) Progressive Metamorphosis
In this type of metamorphosis poorly developed larva convert into highly developed adult. e.g. Tadpole larva form the adult frog.
(ii) Retrogressive Metamorphosis
Highly developed larva from the poorly developed adult. e.g. Ascidian larva of hardmania.
