Memo Assignment – 100 Points

Objective: To use business memo format and effective business writing techniques.

Situation: You are scheduled for your annual performance review. Discuss the work you’ve done and the impact you’ve had on the company. In addition, discuss your career plan for the next two years. You would like to be promoted or get a raise.
*Please note: If you don’t have a full-time or part-time job, write about your academic goals and performance.

Assignment: Write a memo to your boss, Ms. Sayde J. Brais, in preparation for your upcoming review. Justify your position and give details on what you’ve accomplished in your job and why you should be considered for a promotion, a raise, or an academic goal if you’re not working currently. The memo should begin with an introductory paragraph and then address the following topics for the performance review:

•	Objectives for the Year vs. Implementation/Results
o	Example: Reduced customer complaints by 50 percent. Received “Customer Service Representative of the Year” award.
•	Strengths
o	Example: Proactive and assertive when it comes to getting work done. I don’t wait for others to ask for help.
•	Areas of Improvement
o	Example: Need to improve computer skills, including knowledge of new software systems/collaborative tools. I plan on taking courses starting next month.
•	Two-Year Career Development Plan
o	Example: Look for opportunities to network outside of the company and develop “best practices” with regard to brand management and marketing
o	Example 2: Graduate from UNC Charlotte with a B.S.B.A degree in management and assume an assistant manager position in this restaurant.
•	Conclusion
o	Your conclusion should go over results of your work and express your interest in a promotion or a raise! (Again, if you don’t have a job, your call to action should be related to academics).
