Question
Week 3 Healthcare Application Assignment
Please use the data, StatCrunch, and your knowledge of statistics to answer to complete the following:
Part I
Download the provided CDC data into StatCrunch (located at the bottom of these directions). You will utilize this data in weeks 3 and 8 for your Healthcare Applications Assignment. This week:
Create a histogram for two of the variables. Include these histograms in your assignment submission. Comment on any interesting patterns you see. Is the data normally distributed? Why or why not?
Create a scatter diagram for any two of the independent variables (obesity rate, physical activity, poverty rate, smoking) and the dependent variable (diabetes). You should have a total of two scatter plots. Is there a strong relationship between the independent variables and the diabetes rate? Explain your answer. What can you hypothesize based on the relationship you see in this graph?
Part II
The table below shows the results of a drug screen between drug users and non-drug users (resulting in both false positives and false negatives).
Positive Test Result (Drug Use is Indicated) Negative Test Result (Drug Use is Not Indicated)
Subject Uses Drugs 44 (True Positive) 6 (False Negative)
Subject is Not a Drug User 90 (False Positive) 860 (True Negative)
Based on this table, how reliable do you think pre-employment drug screening is for employers to ensure that they are hiring drug-free employees? Is it an accurate tool? Defend your position using statistical data.
If a hiring manager wants to know the likelihood of refusing to hire a drug-free candidate because the person falsely tested positive, or, hiring a drug-using candidate because the person falsely tested negative, what would you tell the person? What is the likelihood of receiving a false positive or false negative?
Your paper should be double spaced, 12 point font, and all references and citations should be APA formatted. All responses should include proper spelling and grammar, and questions should be answered using complete sentences.
