INSTRUCTIONS: IN THIS RESEARCH PAPER, PRESENT YOUR VIEWS AS TO THE OPTIONAL APPROACHES TO PREVENT TERRORIST ATTACKS. 

This research paper should be balanced with approximately half focusing on countering terrorism abroad, and the other half should emphasize how to prevent international terrorists from entering the U.S. or inspiring attacks here at home.

 

Follow the above instructions/criteria on how this research paper should be done.

 

1. Research Work: Propose your view on both overseas offensive actions to prevent or preempt terrorist attacks, and well as domestic (Homeland) security measures and protocols to effectively counter terrorist attacks.

 

Research Paper Requirements

 

1. This research paper must be at a minimum of 6-8 pages 

 

Note: Title and Reference pages do not count towards the minimum limit.

 

1. Scholarly and credible references should be used. A good rule of thumb is at least 2 scholarly sources per page of content.

 

1. Type in Times New Roman, 12 points, and double space.

 

2. Use the current APA Style as the sole citation and reference style 

 

3. Points will be deducted for the use of Wikipedia or encyclopedic-type sources. It is highly advised to utilize books, peer-reviewed journals, articles, archived documents, etc.

 

 

International Terrorism

Research and synthesize your findings related to assessing the al Qaeda terrorist network and then critique the counter-terrorism practices that have been employed against them since 9/11. Address both of the below topics.

 

1. Evaluate the al Qaeda terrorist group: Describe and assess the varying characteristics of the al Qaeda network including the ‘franchises’ or associated movements. What are the differing scholarly opinions of Al Qaeda and the threat this hydra organization poses?

 

2. Critique counter-terrorism practices targeted at al Qaeda: How do the National Strategies for Counter Terrorism from 2003, 2011, and 2018 differ? How do these three security and counter-terrorism practices compare in terms of the terrorism threat faced at their respective publication date, and into the future. Use the frameworks from Yim (2004) and Kean and Hamilton (2017) for comparison.
