Part 1: Go to Richard Harwood’s of Black Hawk College Web Page shown bellow. Practice identifying the samples correctly given at the end of the web page and record the information on a table for 5 of the minerals.
For the 5 minerals, record the following information: Name, color, hardness, luster, streak, fracture, cleavage, description and chemical composition. Next, find any 15 samples ( Remember to include a citation of your sources) and record the following information for each mineral: Name, color, hardness, luster, streak, fracture, cleavage, description and chemical composition. Provide a short description for at least five of the minerals on how you would be able to identify it in the field.
You will include the 5 minerals for Part 1a and the 15 minerals for Part 1b for a total of 20 minerals in your table. INCLUDE A FIGURE FOR 5 OF THE MINERALS ( REMEMBER TO CITE THE SOURCE OF EACH FIGURE)

Part 2: Using your computer’s search engine, conduct a search for “stromatolites.” Take a look at images of both modern and ancient stromatolites. How and where do stromatolites form today and how and where did they form in the distant past? Just how far back in the geological record do we find stromatolites? Choose any 2 fossils and provide a brief description and classification of each as well as a sketch. Find some images of sedimentary structures on the web at one of many sites that show such illustrations, for example, http://www.indiana.edu/~geol105/images/gaia_chapter_5/sedimentary_structures.htm. Make a sketch of two sedimentary structures of your choosing and briefly explain how they form and what they mean when found in sedimentary rocks.
