Managers with different personality types can have a positive contribution to a high functioning workplace (Kroeger et al., 2009). Different personalities and temperaments create some sort of balance and uniqueness in an organization. Some of the different personality traits managers have include extraversion, openness to experiences, conscientiousness, agreeableness and negative affectivity (Kroeger et al., 2009). Managers with different personality types will control their subordinates based on their personality types (Creasy & Anantatmula, 2013). For instance, a manager with a sanguine personality type is open and social and may be able to win his or her subordinates hence getting the desired outcomes. Additionally, employees feel more comfortable and welcomed when working under the supervision of a manager with a sanguine personality type hence a high morale and increased output (Creasy & Anantatmula, 2013). Conversely, employees under the supervision of a manager with a choleric or phlegmatic personality type will try their best to improve their workplace performance in a bid to impress their boss (Creasy & Anantatmula, 2013). Therefore, a strict, quiet and observant manager is able to achieve the same results as a social and open manager.

The current business world is comprised of many industries hence each industry requires a particular personality type (Creasy & Anantatmula, 2013). For instance, a technical introverted individual who is detail oriented will be as successful as an extroverted salesman based on their field of expertise. Also, an administrative officer with a strict temperament will be as successful in the implementation of policies as a quite laboratory scientist manager based on the requirements of their particular workplace environment (Creasy & Anantatmula, 2013). Lastly, managers with limited skill sets or expertise necessary for their jobs tend to learn these requisite new traits and behaviors. Once they learn these new traits their likelihood of becoming successful in their respective fields increases exponentially.
