Discuss the regions (New England, South, Midwest and West) covered in the text (chapters 10, 12, 13 and 14) and their various way of life during the 1800s. Use facts to support your views. Write about ALL four regions:

1. Explain what defined each region as far as its social structure, population, economic system and cultural outlook.

2. Argue to what extent each region was independent of the others by 1850?

3. Explain in which region of the country you would prefer to live in 1850, and why? Explain why you would not choose another place.

Remember to use your own words when you write. However, if you quote or paraphrase from the text, please cite the pages, for instance (259), in your essay. This essay must be roughly 1000 words. Make sure you include a brief introduction, the main body with paragraphs that argue both sides, and a conclusion where you give your view of the situation.
