Mid Term Assignment
Students will select one of the human resource failures identified in your textbook Why Law Enforcement Organizations Fail by Patrick O’Hara. Students will relate the failure to a failure of the New Orleans Police Department (NOPD) or other police department within the State of Louisiana (The examples used in the textbook may not be used). Students will collect data to identify and support their selected failure. Students will fully discuss the failure and address how the failure originated and the results and impact of the failure on the police department and the community. Discuss how leadership (or lack of) directly impacted the outcome of the event. Make sure you identify and discuss the specific decisions, procedures and policies that occurred before, during and after the event. Students will discuss how the failure might have been prevented and solutions for preventing such failures in the future. The Mid-Term Examination will be an evaluation of the student’s ability to correlate and discuss in a critical manner the issues identified in the readings to a real life example. The paper will also be evaluated for APA format including Title Page, Reference Page, Abstract, Introduction and use of references, headings and sub-headings and the students ability to identify and discuss failures in human resource management. The mid term should use at a minimum 5 references not including the textbook. The mid term will constitute 30% of a student’s overall semester grade. The paper will be between 15-20 pages not including Title Page and Reference pages.
