The relationship between successful mobile marketing and customer engagement has been selected as the linking theme for the Final Essay Assignment. The issues raised
in the Summary #1 article “Brands in Context” (Simon, 2011) assisted with the development of this research focus. The following sources have been selected based upon
their relevance to the topic as well as their credibility and reliability:

Inthe journal article “Brands in Context”, Simon (2011) discusses the importance of developing and managing authentic brand ideals as the foundation of any
successful modern business strategy. The article defines brand ideals as the promotion of “higher-order” concepts relating to social, environmental, humanitarian
and/or personal aspirations that connect consumers’ desire for a better life with the products or services a company is providing. While tangible assets were very
important to a company’s value in the past, research shows that intangible assets, such as brands and brand ideals, now account for approximately 30% of the total
value of a company; thus, requiring business leaders to include purposeful brand development into their business plans (113 words).
Simon conducted extensive research to write this short supplemental piece published in the Journal of Advertising Research, and presents the findings in an
unbiased and easily understandable way by including examples of the brand ideals developed by the largest brands, Google, IBM and Apple as well as highlighting the
success of the Red Bull energy drink and Method home-cleaning product marketing campaigns to connect with people on a more personal and emotional level. Given the
rapid technological advances that mean more and more people around the world have access to information about various products and services available on the market,
Simon’s article is both timely and relevant for anyone interested in increasing their understanding of how to better connect with consumers by developing a business
strategy that taps into something more than just selling a product (136 words).
