There is much to think about in the application of this technique. As we discussed earlier in the module, the use of any management accounting technique must take account of organizational factors such as culture. Issues such as the ranking of metrics, the importance of non-financial criteria and gender factors are all critical in this context.
There is also a significant body of research on the use of technology in this context. This includes the use of signs and symbols (semiotics) to indicate ‘good’ and ‘bad’ performance and the relative perception of integrated and standalone software packages. Again, you may want to think about these issues in the light of your professional experience.
