Instrumentation Discussion Paper

Write a 1,050- to 1,750-word paper that discusses your instrumentation.

Discuss in more detail than the prior week the instrument you’ve selected for your mock study and why it is appropriate.

Describe your instrument’s reliability and validity as reported in the literature, and its cultural appropriateness to your population. References required for this section.

Identify if you would have the need to modify the instrument for your study.  If you would have to modify the instrument, describe what that modification might be and the rationale for the modifications. If you have determined you do not have to modify the instrument, describe how you might modify it to better reflect your purpose.  If the instrument has not been validated for the population that is the same as your mock study, or if you would modify the instrument, describe how you would validate the instrument statistically.

Provide a conclusion that includes the justification for your choices for your study supported by references.

Format your paper so that it is consistent with APA guidelines.

Procurement and Contracting

Imagine you are a bottled water vendor located in Arizona.  Your clients include for-profit businesses and nonprofit organizations, but you’re considering whether to narrow your market to one or the other type of client.

 

Write a paper of approximately 900 words that compares the procurement processes in private versus public sectors.  In your comparison, answer the following questions from the perspective of a bottled water vendor.

 

1.  What are the major similarities and differences between private sector procurement and public sector purchasing?

 

2.  What could you change in either process, and why?  How could public sector procurement staff improve the procurement process by using best practices from the public sector, and vice versa.

 

3.  After your analysis, would you like to narrow your market to for-profit or nonprofit?  Explain.

String Theory Reading

You will read some articles on Cosmology and String Theory and answer the questions on the worksheet. Open the worksheet on String Theory, read the associated articles it mentions (loaded in this module) and answer the questions. (You may also want to watch the associated PBS special before you complete the worksheet – that will further explain the ideas about which you have read.)   Attach the worksheet to this assignment and submit. (Note that one of the readings is loaded in three different parts/pages – the files would not load for me as one.) As you read, think about the dimensions mentioned for our own universe in terms of how dimensions were explained to the beings in “Flatland”. It will be confusing simply because we humans are not able to visualize beyond three dimensions. (How is something more “up” than “up”? Is there a “super-up” direction?) Although we can’t visualize it, we can think that just as the Flatland character living in 2-D realized there was a 3-D world, we might live in a seemingly 3-D world that actually has MORE dimensions. The book excerpt on string theory is by Brian Greene, who is a bit of a “rock star” in the physics world. He shows up a lot on the “Nature” channel, etc. He’s a great speaker, actually, and his books are usually geared toward non-scientists, so I’d recommend any of his books if you’re interested in reading more. Of course, Carl Sagan was a great explainer of big ideas also, so his books are always fun, but some things in them have become outdated since his death. Still, they are great reads. KHD
