Final q.1

Final q.1

Michael Porter and Mark Kramer’s “Creating Shared Value” has been criticized as not being original — that people have been writing about much the same thing for decades and that it is just a relabeling of strategic CSR practices and that, in a move very much reminiscent of Milton Friedman’s famous critique of CSR, CSV “presumes compliance with the law and ethical standards, as well as mitigating any harm caused by the business”. Of course, as long as you can presume them away, then you don’t have to deal with them. Do you agree with these criticisms? If so, why? If not, why not?

Is physical health more important than mental health?

Is physical health more important than mental health?

Instructions:

Your research paper should be at least 1200 words long (the Works Cited page is a part of this word count requirement).

For your research paper, you should pick a debatable ethical, social, or political topic.

Choose a side to argue and support your argument with evidence. Make sure to also present the arguments of the opposition and argue against them.

  • You should make your own arguments, rather than simply report on where others stand on the issue.
  • You may not make faith based arguments in your research paper (ie: “The Bible clearly
    states that

is frowned upon by God, so people should not engage in that

activity.”)

  • Your argumentative research paper should be presented in MLA format, and include page numbers and a proper heading (1″ margins, 12 point Times New Roman font, double-spaced, check the box under paragraph which reads “don’t add space between paragraphs of the same style”).
  • Properly introduce your argument, clearly stating your thesis (position on the subject) in your introductory paragraph.
  • Your paper should include an introductory paragraph (which introduces your argument, both sides of the argument, and shows which side you are arguing for), body paragraphs (which flesh out the position you are taking on your topic, while stating the arguments of the opposition and refuting them), and a conclusion (which wraps everything up neatly and restates your thesis and explains why your position on the matter is better than that of the opposition).
Do NOT use “I,” «we,” or «you” pronouns or contractions (“she’s” or “can’t,” for example) in your paper.

o

Please review the chapter/s in The Norton Field Guide to Writing on researching a topic, avoiding plagiarism and MLA format BEFORE you begin writing your research paper.

Sources:

Your paper MUST include a Works Cited page which presents at least 3, but no more than 4 sources in proper MLA format. At least 1 of these sources MUST come from the GMC e-library databases.

You must include at least 1 source for the opposition of your argument, which you should argue against.

For each source, you must employ 1-2 quote(s) or paraphrase(s) in your paper with proper in text citations.

Your quotes may not be longer than 2 lines long. Your sources should be alphabetized by the last name of the author of the source (follow proper protocol if no author is given-these can be found in the textbook).

Your sources MUST be taken from credible sources. Websites are (generally) NOT considered scholarly sources. However, you may use a website from the following domains: gov, .org, or .edu. You may NOT use ANY sites from other domain unless approved by your professor.

You may not use any religious text as a source for your research paper.

In summation: Acceptable sources for your research paper are books or periodicals found in the GMC library, databases provided on the GMC library website, and gov, org, and edu websites.

Any outside research (ideas, facts, or statistics that do not come from your own head) MUST be properly documented (through in-text citations and works cited page)

TCJA Tax Law Changes

TCJA Tax Law Changes

The Tax Cuts and Jobs Act (TCJA) that was signed into law in December, 2017.  This law was effective beginning tax years 2018 and included many significant changes to both Individual and Corporate Tax Law.  Please note that although the House recently passed a spending package that would impact some of the tax law changes made by the TCJA, the provisions of the TCJA currently remain in full effect.

Required:

1) Paper must be at least 3 pages of content (no maximum limit), double-spaced, NOT including your cover page or References page. Upload your paper in the Tax Research Assignment 3 Folder in Assignments, no later than May 2, 2023, 11:59 PM EST.

2) Research the TCJA tax law changes and use a minimum of 2 sources for your paper.   The sources must be professional news articles, or journal articles – not Wikipedia, or Investopedia.

3) Answer the following 3 questions:

What were some of the significant tax law changes  beginning in 2018? (you don’t have to discuss them all, just choose some major changes). Please elaborate on these changes — simply listing changes without an explanation of what the changes were and how they affect taxpayers will result in point deductions.

Discuss the TCJA tax law changes affects the home mortgage interest deduction and the state and local real estate, personal property, and either income or sales taxes (SALT). Specifically, discuss how a taxpayer’s taxes may have been affected if she had taken out a $800,000 mortgage in 2016 vs. in 2020.  Please also discuss the impact that the SALT cap from the TCJA may impact taxpayers from states with high property taxes and those with low property taxes.

What were some of the arguments made in favor and in opposition of the TCJA tax law changes?
