This short story represents a good example of funny and hilarious process essays. Every single step of carving turkey is explained. There is a professional and meticulous way in which Baker describes all the best positions a turkey should be put in order to achieve better results during carving. Russell makes a lot of fun while describing the tools to be used in his proposed processes (Scarry & Scarry 642-643). I believe this story is very unique especially to those people who do not know the artistry involved in carving a turkey.

The author may be assumed as lazy because he does not like carving turkey. Although he craves for turkey, he is only comfortable watching football rather than carving turkey. When he finds an excuse that the curve knife is not sharp enough to curve the turkey, he goes ahead to borrow from neighbors. After lazy stroll, he comes back only to find that the turkey is ready to be eaten. The author obviously do not love taking time with his family and does not even see the need of helping the family out with some jobs. He better watch football than carving turkey which is meant to be eaten by his family including himself (Blau et al. 148-153)

I tend to believe that the author is a very angry and hot tempered individual who is also more aggressive with little patient. He does not concern himself with what people would think about him or about his acts. He funnily proposes the use of axe instead of a carving knife and further says that turkey should be put on a concrete wall to easily brake off the legs. This I think is unacceptable way of dealing with food (Scarry & Scarry 642-643). This short story reveals a lot about what happens to many people who do not love enjoying time with their families.

Cover Letter for assistant/apprentice hairdresser position

I would like to apply for a position of assistant/apprentice hairdresser in your salon. I have chosen your salon because I recognize and appreciate the magnificent and trendy hairstyles your company offers to its customers and would be so proud to be part of your zealous team.

I have recently completed the hairdressing course in the college and I am currently seeking the position of assistant/apprentice hairdresser so that I can apply the skills I have acquired during the course. I am very passionate about hairdressing since I feel good when I see my clients looking very beautiful and shinning. Whenever I watch the celebrities, I evaluate their beauty based on the type of their haircuts or styles and the accompanying accessories. I agree with Hubert de Givenchy that, “hair style is the final tip-off whether or not a woman really knows herself” (2). Therefore, my vision is to help women realize themselves through hairdressing and I believe your company will enable me attain my dream or even surpass it.

My career goal in applying for the position of assistant/apprentice hairdresser is to gain and expand hairdressing experience and enhance my practical skills. The opportunity will give me ample time to explore the world of beauty and hairdressing as my career, expand my knowledge and skills, and eventually become a trendy hairdresser. I would like to start my apprenticeship not only because with this traineeship I can become one day a hairdresser of the established salon, but also because I hope that I will apply the skills and knowledge I have acquired during the apprenticeship to express my vision.

During the course of my studies I gained diverse skills in hairdressing and my objective is to use them creatively in designing new and trendy hairstyles. My objective is to incorporate knowledge and new skills in developing and designing haircuts and hairstyles to keep abreast with new styles in the industry, and I hope that other artists will get inspired from my work. I find inspiration from the famous artist, Pablo Picasso, who was a guru in the world of arts because he experimented with different theories, techniques, and ideas. Since he had guidance from his father at a young age, I would like to obtain guidance from your established salon, for I strongly believe that if you want to be the best, you have to learn from the best.

To meet my career objectives and goals in hairdressing, I have been constantly dedicating my time in reading widely and observing the work of great models and soliciting advice from my mentors, who have seen me through until I finished the college. For example, in the fashion industry, Patricia Fields from Sex & the City is probably one of the best clothing stylists, in my opinion, and I consider Tom Ford one of the best fashion designers because he was the one who transformed Gucci into a fashion powerhouse. I believe I have what it takes to emulate both Patricia and Tom if I learn the foundation of hairdressing. So far, I am confident that I have done my best and will strive for the best, as there is always room for improvement.

I strongly feel that the position of assistant/apprentice hairdresser in your salon will offer me a great experience, which will enhance my career as hairdresser. I am looking forward for your consideration and I am readily available for an interview.

Day in Court

This writing highlights various elements of the criminal justice after I visited a Boston Municipal Court. This court is situated at the Government Center T stop on the Green Line and the case was presided over by Honorable James W. Coffey. Indeed, by attending the court proceedings I was able to understand and grab some of the activities involved in administration of justice. It is interesting to see the degree in which courtrooms attempt to maintain peace and unity of the society via their jurisdiction and the investigative minds of the judges. It is worth understandable that Criminal Justice has the police, court and jails as the main components although the police are the front face of this kind of law. The ongoing court trial that I attended involved forceful attack on two innocent couples.

The victims were Mr. and Mrs. Patrick who were driving on but unfortunately, their car rammed from behind. The couple then got out of their car to check on the cause of the problem. Immediately they got out of the car, they were attacked by a gang that included about six heavily built men with guns on their hands who abducted the couple and drugged them for a shorter distance, approximately 60 yards before dropping them along the way. Regrettably, Mr. Paul who attempted to seek medical attention from the nearby health facility was pronounced dead due to a good number of backbone fractures and heart attack. Mrs. Paul was however just slapped by someone who seemed to be the head of the gang.

An attempt by the accused lawyer to defend the defendant by terming the crime scene as unrealistic and marred with malice did not succeed. Judge Coffey refused the lawyer’s claim by claiming that the criminal history of the accused was wanting and highly questionable. Judge James added that the accused person had a very bad record of serial murder trials, which began almost a year ago. Judge James further identified two of the accused close friends and termed them as some of the most wanted criminals according to the police department. Coffey noted that despite past hearings, the accused does not seem to be learning any lesson and that the nature of the crime was inexcusable morally and ranked high in manslaughter. The accused was therefore, found guilty and sentenced to 15 years by Judge Coffey.

I think the decision of the Judge was based on the previous acts of the defendant and therefore it was the Judge’s strategy to ensure that the defendant did not go scot-free. The juries who seemed to be taking notes regarding every fact were a true sign of judicial independency and representatives of the local community. The case I witnessed was not very easy to follow because there was need to prove beyond reasonable doubt. However, the medical practitioner who examined Mr. Paul’s body brought in signs of the defendant actions.

Judge Coffey looked firm and strict throughout the case and he appeared to be taking note of every fact and aspect of the proceedings. Perhaps the numerous effective arguments in the case affected the ultimate decision made by the judge. The case took a bit longer probably because the judge had a responsibility of explaining every decision in the layman’s language. Being a murder case, I was surprised at the simplicity of the facts presented at the case. The jury did not seem to sympathize with the accused right from the beginning of the case and this made it simple to determine the outcome of the case.

I have to admit that the proceedings of the case were very formal and looked serious because there was greater attention paid by every party concerned. Although the facts seemed simple and easy to me, it must have appeared too difficult to be followed by juries thus prompting the judge to make decision by himself. Generally, the courts are indeed very important institutions because of their efficiency in hearing and achieving accurate results. Judge Coffey was unshaken by the jury while analyzing the evidence that was provided by the doctor thus leading to punishment of a particular criminal.

The prosecution played an important role in attesting that the accused is accountable. The previous convictions of similar murder cases against the defendant added more weight to the evidence and was therefore, adduced in court against the defendant. However, I tend to think that this sum up to miscarriage of justice and further undermines the principle of presumption of innocence. I think there was suspicion created by the judge to the innocence of the suspect particularly when the judge highlighted past criminal records of the accused. I expected some fairness and that the most important thing in every case particularly criminal case was proving beyond reasonable doubt.

I think the judge did not give the defense lawyer enough time to defend his client. This made me feel that at times court proceedings do not even require lawyers especially when defendant is common figure in the court and has bad reputation or considered “guilty” even before hearing. It appeared that that hiring a lawyer by the defendant was just a formality and nothing much could have been done by the lawyer to defend his client. I think the legal system is very technical and tends to take care of previous injustices done by an individual. In that case, it is not possible for a frequent suspect to go scot free because the legal system will definitely trap the individual.

Macro-Economic Policies used by the Australian Government and Reserve Bank

Australia has been very successful in her economic growth compared to other advanced economies since the 2008 financial crisis. The government in conjunction with the Reserve Bank of Australia has made sound monetary and fiscal policies that are responsible for the positive economies. According to “Australian Government”, Australian economic boom has been contributed by the recent rise in global demand particularly China’s economic emergence as well as changing from controlling inflation to avoid recession (Web). This article describes and evaluates the main Macro Economic Policies used by the Australian Government and Reserve Bank over the last two years.

Australian government has successfully utilized fiscal policy to alleviate the macroeconomic effects which includes substantial increase in surplus while reducing the government’s debt ratio.

In the last two years, the government’s goal has achieved economic growth, internal and external balance within an economy thereby maintaining economic growth and low inflation as well as ensuring low foreign debt and liabilities. Although economic growth has not been constant for the last two years due to international business cycles, the government has reduced the fluctuations via influencing demand. In as much as the economy has had several ups and downs, her improved international demands and rich natural resources such as iron ore and coal. According to “International Monetary Fund,” Reserve Bank of Australia has strengthened financial system in such a way that the macroeconomic policy is devised to curb recession instead of controlling inflation (Web).

Macroeconomic aggregates which include rate of inflation, GDP growth and unemployment rate can possibly reflect the performance of a country’s economy. Initially, the signs of recession were responded to by the RBA through cutting the interest rates down to 3.0% while Commonwealth government assured retail bank deposits and further gave out A $67 billion as discretionary fiscal stimulus. Indeed the effects of recession largely affected the government’s and RBA’s decision in the last two years. According to Akpansung, even as other countries such as U.S are struggling to recover from recession, the Australian government has boosted the economy by encouraging export to Asia (125-128). The government’s move to incorporate interest rate is aimed at promoting non-mining and housing investments which play integral role in spurring economic growth.

Reserve Bank of Australia further made some great efforts in controlling money supply through the open market operations which involves purchasing or selling of financial instruments (Web). This has stabilized the Australian economy for the last two years because of their eventual effect on consumption and investment. According to Soliman RBA’s monetary policy for the last two years has been directed to achieve 2-3% inflation rate on the average over the cycle and this has really stimulated economic activities without interfering with economic decisions in the economy (98-100). It is apparent that both the government and the RBA have instituted strong fiscal and monetary policies that have successfully countered the economic recession.

Theoretically, reduction of interest rate would enhance aggregate demand by influencing the aggregate components such as stimulation of investments projects as borrowing would be less expensive. The attraction or creation of a good investment environment has been one of the core activities that the government has dealt with in the previous years as this will deal with unemployment issues. Soliman explains that low interest rate has enabled Australia to increase her export while reducing their imports thus enhancing net export (101-102). The monetary policy decision process in Australia which includes the RBA board has been frequently meeting to discuss new developments in both Australia and international economies as well as local and international markets. This has always encouraged quality recommendations for the monetary policy decisions in the country. It has also ensured controlled cash rates and interest rate structure which has prevailed in the financial system.

According to Bahn, Llandis and Ghialy, the independency of the Reserve Bank Board has been commendable for the last two years because there has been minimal political influence especially regarding interest rate issues (380-383). This conforms to the international standard and avoids political manipulation thus letting monetary policy concentrated towards long term goal achievements. Reserve Bank of Australia has generally lowered the restrictive monetary policy stance which is considered accommodative such as the compatibility of cash rate with inflation which has recently gone up to the midpoint of the 2-3% target (Web). RBA’s inflation policy has really been successful and greatly conforms to the wages increase driven by increased productivity in the past two years. RBA’s credibility and quick response to changing economic changes such as stall of global recovery and perhaps disruption of international markets may prompt RBA to cut her policy and provide liquidity support for financial systems.

To some extent, Australia’s economic growth has been irregular because of the mining related sectors which have greatly expanded while other sectors growing slowly when compared with the trend growth. Regarding the household sector, the household consumption grew with the increase in income thus prompting the RBA to take appropriate measure to curb inflation. Internationally, Australia’s labor market has performed well and the unemployment rate has generally decreased in the last two years due to robust job opportunities in the mining sector. The government introduced tax incentive in the mining sector thus enhancing investment and trade in the mining industry such as the mineral resource rent tax. Thirlwell explains that mining and construction sector has performed extremely well and boosted economic growth (Web). Terms of trade have done averagely very well hence maintaining Australian dollar at a higher position. The current account deficit has remained commonly narrow due to improved terms of trade and effective exchange rate.

It is undeniable that the Australian government and the RBA have had a solid bipartisan backing for both monetary and fiscal policies which are intended to propagate economic growth. In the last two years, the government effort has had a positive effect on various areas of the economy despite challenges and disruptions in the international economies. According to Thirlwell, Australia’s desire to reduce public debt ratio over the business made very progressive impact in the last two years (Web). It is evident therefore that the Australian government has successfully utilized fiscal policy to alleviate the macroeconomic effects which includes substantial increase in surplus while reducing the government’s debt ratio.

COVERING MING DYNASTY THROUGH 20TH CENTURY

COVERING MING DYNASTY THROUGH 20TH CENTURY

COVERING MING DYNASTY THROUGH 20TH CENTURY

His 106 g: Final Exam prep sheet

The final exam will focus on the second half of the course, essentially from the Ming dynasty up to the present. All ID, short answer, and text analysis questions will focus on those time periods. There are also two groups of essay questions. Questions in Group 1 focus almost exclusively on the second half of the course, while Group 2 questions cover the entire semester.

The final will be comprised of 3 parts.

1) An identification section 25 pts

2) A short answer section15 pts

3) Two short essays60 pts, 30 points each

The entire exam is designed to take about 80 minutes, but you can use the entire 2 hours if you like.

PART 1: 5 IDs for 5 points each. Total 25 points.

You will be given a list of a dozen terms, names, or events. You will have to choose 5 of these, identify them and explain their significance.

PART 2: 2 Short Answers, 7.5 points each, total 15 points.

You will be given 8 short answer questions. Answer 2 of them.

PART 3. 2 short essays, 30 points each. You must pick one essay from Group 1 and one from Group 2. Below are several essay questions. 4 questions will appear on the exam, 2 in each Group. How you write the essay is of course up to you. Try to use specific examples of events, historical figures and/or texts in your answers when possible.

GROUP 1: COVERING MING DYNASTY THROUGH 20TH CENTURY

1. “Almost all of the major territorial disputes China has faced over the last 100 years have their roots in the Qing dynasty.”

Write an essay in which you explain the above claim, choosing 3 specific examples of such disputes/conflicts. Make sure to 1) describe each of the basic conflicts or disputes (when, where, between whom, and either how the dispute ended or, if the situation is ongoing, what the situation is today.); 2) explain some of the main reasons driving each dispute or sparking key outbreaks of conflict; and 3) make sure to include in these reasons the significance of the geo-political legacy that 20th century Chinese governments inherited from the Qing (obviously this third aspect is crucial to your essay).

2. Write an essay comparing the Nationalists (GMD) and the Communists (CCP) from the 1920s to 1950. What were some of the main policies and strategies of the parties (including their armies)? Who supported them? Who opposed them? Why? Did their levels of popular support change over time, and why? Try to be as specific as you can about the particular social groups or strata that joined (or disliked) the parties, and the policies or actions that gained or lost the popular support of these groups. Obviously sometimes support or opposition resulted from unintended consequences of policies and actions; and sometimes both parties tried to woo the same groups of people to their cause. You also can touch on domestic issues and/or foreign relations, economics, politics or culture—any specific issues you see as playing important roles in shaping the CCP’s and/or GMD’s popular support. In the final analysis, what do you think explains the eventual defeat of the GMD by the CCP? Did the CCP win, or did the GMD lose?

3. “The main political challenge China faced from the Opium War to the establishment of the Peoples Republic of China in 1949 involved the necessity of transforming traditional imperial subjects into modern national citizens.”

Write an essay explaining the above statement. In your response you should FIRST AND FOREMOST clarify what the key differences are between subjects and citizens. Then give 3 historical examples that illustrate the importance of this issue (these could be the influential writings or ideas of key figures; institutional changes, reforms, government policies; mass movements, political protests, rebellions, or other catalyzing events; or even general social trends that demonstrated or promoted this shift). Finally, in your conclusion evaluate whether (or to what extent, in what specific ways) the Chinese people in the Mao era were national citizens,.

GROUP 2: OVERVIEW OF THE WHOLE SEMESTER,

4. “The most significant change in 20th century Chinese history was not the revolution of 1911 toppling the Qing, nor the revolution of 1949 putting the CCP in power, but the Qing government’s decision to end the civil service exam system in 1905.”

Write an essay explaining clearly why this claim could be made. You should not simply summarize the importance of the civil service exam in Chinese history, but also the short and long-term ramifications of its abolishment for modern Chinese politics, society and culture (in this regard you can also discuss the role of Confucianism in modern Chinese culture and history if you like). Use clear specific examples.

Having defended the claim as well as you are able, conclude with your own assessment of whether you actually think it is correct. Why or why not? What do YOU think the most significant event of 20th century Chinese history was?

5. Write an essay either agreeing or disagreeing with this proposition:

“The most important problem in Chinese history has been the struggle between the rich and the poor.”

There are many ways you could approach this essay. No matter what you choose to argue, make sure to 1) present an overview of how economic inequality has been a concern at various moments throughout Chinese history; you can describe ways it was created and reinforced and attempts to lessen it. 2) Evaluate the role of the CCP and “Socialism” in 20th century China in light of class inequality. USE SPECIFIC EXAMPLES.

If you disagree with the proposition you should provide and argue for an alternative proposition (for example: economic inequality was an incessant problem, but corruption OR national defense OR modernization OR xyz was the most pressing issue of the 20th century). If you agree with the proposition then explain why attempts at creating more egalitarian systems been typically short-lived and failed.

6. One way to look at Chinese history from the perspective of women is that Chinese women lived through most of Chinese imperial history (from the Han dynasty to the Qing) being ruled by the patriarchal family; in the 20th century they were liberated from that family structure in order to be ruled by the nation-state.

Write an essay explaining and providing evidence for this statement. It is extremely important to remember that the roles that confined women could also be the roles that brought them respect and (limit) power. In your essay provide and explain 2 clear examples from before the 20th century of how women’s roles were shaped by their place in serving the family and provide and explain 2 clear examples of how in the 20th century their roles were recast to serving the nation.

However, it has some weaknesses which make it not look like a business message but rather a friendly message.

The message for adjustment is very important in addressing a problem with a product. The message should always be very brief and to the point. It should not include too much unnecessary information that does not interest the business entity concerned. It should always be precise and straight to the point. For instance the fact that the multimedia drives the customer crazy is not necessary in this letter. Part of the message that reads ‘this reminds me of every time I buy electronic equipment from what seems like any company” sounds rather abusive rather than pointing out at the main problem with the computer PC.

To HinkleyEven after raising complaints regarding failure of my phone to receive incoming calls in September 15th, still there is absolutely nothing you have done to rectify the account which I have already paid for. I therefore write to ask for adjustment to my account. The malfunction has really interfered with my communication.

I acquired the new phone on September 15 from your company where we agreed to a $49 monthly fee. Since then I have not had any incoming calls. However, a technician told me that my incoming calls were routed to an inactive number when I called your company on September 30th. It is barely two weeks since the technician discovered the problem yet nothing has been done.

I have been paying the service I do not receive and this is really hurting. I therefore need my account to be adjusted so that I do not pay for the days I did not use the services. I have not used the service as from September 15th to October 20th. As you can see, if those days are charged, I shall have lost a lot of money. You may call me at ext. 2445 in case there is any clarification you may need from me.

Introduction

The growth and development of a child is of utmost importance to the parent. It is well recognized that a parent would do anything to ensure proper growth and development. However, it goes without saying that the worries that occupy the highest point in any parent’s mind are the fear of ailments. This is especially considering that they not only have a bearing on the overall welfare of the child, but may also have fatal consequences. Of course, there are variations as to the seriousness of any condition that affects young children. Nevertheless, one of the most common ailments in young children is constipation.

Constipation may be defined as the difficulty or delay in defecation that occurs for a period of two or more weeks. It is worth noting that constipation may have functional or organic causes. Functional constipation is arguably the most common category of constipation. It is diagnosed based on an individual’s physical examination and history and is also referred to as nonorganic constipation, fecal withholding or idiopathic constipation. There are various causes of nonorganic constipation including bathroom avoidance, attention deficit disorder, sexual abuse, coercive toilet training or even fear of the toilet. This category of constipation often starts after the neonatal period.

In the western world, it is common to seek treatment for Chronic Functional Constipation for postneonatal children. It is estimated that 3% of the general pediatric outpatients are suffering from CFC. It also takes up 25% of the pediatric gastroenterology consultations and 36% of the pediatric visits (Crowley et al, 2008. Pp.29). However, it is impossible to determine the real prevalence of constipation, thanks to variations in definitions, as well as management.

Chronic Functional Constipation refers to a condition where an individual has one bowel movement in a period between 3 and 15 days. Its main characteristics include strain in defecation, painful bowel movement, hard stools that have increased diameter. It is usual for an individual to withhold so as to avert the possibility of an unpleasant bowel motion. The treatment of this category of constipation is founded on the principle that lack of exercise, behavioral or psychological problems, low consumption of fluids and dietary fibers are the key causes of CFC, with management incorporating laxatives, fecal disimpaction and toilet training, as well as high intake of fluid and fiber. However, the long and repetitive treatment is often shown as ineffective, which shows that there exists no clarity as to the exact etiology of constipation. The deficiency of a sustainable and effective treatment poses a herculean problem for healthcare professionals and patients.

Nevertheless, there has been increased advances in understanding of the mechanisms that result in constipation with the sole aim of coming up with an effective therapeutic approach. It is well recognized that a third of children suffering from constipation will go on having the problem well into their adulthood. This is a contradiction of the commonly held notion that constipation has to disappear prior to or during puberty. It has always been suggested that lower consumption of residue-rich foods such as vegetables and fruits, coupled with excess consumption of dairy desserts and milk are seen as a likely connection between milk products and constipation. Recent times have seen increased interest in cow’s milk proteins as direct causes of constipation via immune mediated mechanism. This etiology has especially been supported by the resolution of manometric and histological abnormalities in patients who live on cow’s milk-free diets. However, few literary works have been written to examine the influence that cow’s milk has on pediatric, chronic constipation. In addition, the withdrawal of cow’s milk as a treatment option has not impacted on the medical community, as well as the published guidelines pertaining to the management or treatment of patients with this condition. This study aimed at showing that the consumption of cow’s milk has the potential to cause constipation in children.

Hypothesis: Cow’s milk consumption may cause constipation to children.

Methods

In the article by Irastorza et al (2010), Investigation into the effects of cow’s milk and the role it plays as far as constipation in children was carried out. The study involved children aged between 6 months and 14 years, who had been referred to a tertiary pediatric gastroenterology clinic for the period between October 2006 and 2007. The study excluded children who had been taking drugs that result in constipation, or those who had previous abdominal surgery, anatomic abnormalities, pilodinal sinus or a sensitive pelvic floor. The study involved 69 children. The history of patients was taken alongside the conduction of physical examinations. The researchers evaluated the consistency of the stools with the use of a semiquantitative scale of 5 points.

The study incorporated four phases. In the first phase, there was no diet change in the first week. The second phase started at the second week and progressed for three weeks. The parents were required to withdraw cow’s milk from the diet. However, cow’s milk was replaced by hydrolyzed cow’s milk-protein formula for children aged less than 2 years while rice milk was used in the case of those older than 2 years. However, soy milk or even products that incorporated soya were excluded as there is heightened prevalence of allergies to soya among cow milk-allergic children.

Children who were not responsive to phase II of the study went through to the end while those whose constipation was resolved after the three weeks went on to phase 3, with cow milk reintroduced for another three weeks. In phase 3, children would be provided with 500 ml of cow milk daily. Children who did not contract constipation in phase 3 completed the study while those who relapsed to constipation had cow milk withdrawn for another three weeks, which made phase 4.

In another study by Andiran et al (2003), two groups comprising of 30 children between 4 months and 3 years were examined. The first group was composed of children suffering from chronic anal fissure and constipation, with surgical causes having been excluded while the second group had normal children. Children in the first group had not been subjected to any previous treatment using laxatives or other therapies. Constipation diagnosis was done based on a history of low frequency of stools, as well as the painful elimination of stool. The children’s daily consumption of CM, as well as breastfeeding duration, were investigated among other clinical features. In both categories, dietetic and clinical parameters were made of height or weight percentiles, breastfeeding from birth to weaning, and daily cow’s milk consumption as either cow’s milk formula or cow’s milk. The consumption of milk was registered in multiples of 50 ml for the dietetic records.

Another study by Crowley et al, 2008 examined the literature that had been written later than 1980 and only incorporated studies on children between 4 and 15 years pertaining to the relationship between cow’s milk intake and the occurrence of constipation in children.

Strengths and weaknesses

All these studies were comprehensive and thorough in the manners in which they were done. However, the first study was limited in the capacity to incorporate conclusive evidence pertaining to other likely immune mechanisms of constipation. The third study was limited on the number of materials from which it sought its information. One of the key limitations of the study by Crowley et al (2008) is that it incorporated children belonging to varied ages. It is worth noting that it is unlikely to have similar conclusions in children belonging to different age groups. In addition, the research faced challenges as to the materials it could incorporate. The study could not rely on research from a single group as its results have not been replicated in other settings. On the same note, this review was limited in the fact that it did not incorporate studies carried out in languages different from English, while there is likelihood that some evidence may have been excluded. Nevertheless, the study incorporated immunological and biochemical analyses indicating an association between cow’s milk protein and constipation, thereby offering a likely, biological explanation for the correlation between the two.

Discussion

Irastorza et al (2010) article showed a clear cause and effect link between the ingestion of cow milk and chronic constipation in over a third of children who participated in the study. This was shown through resolution and relapsing of constipation in the first five days of cow’s milk withdrawal, as well as reintroduction in the respondent children, which is a suggestion of intervention pertaining to late allergy reactors. This underlines the fact that if constipation is proven to be a presentation of food allergy, it has to be classified as delayed symptoms.

The results in Andiran et al (2003) article showed that, young children and infants who had chronic constipation or anal fissure consume higher amounts of dairy products or cow’s milk than children who had normal bowel habit. The research also showed that, short breastfeeding duration and early bottle feeding on cow’s milk plays a key role in developing anal fissure and constipation in young children and infants. These findings suggest that anal fissures and constipation may, in fact, be secondary results of intolerance to cow’s milk, particularly cow’s milk protein allergies. It is imperative that prospective studies are done confirm or negate this contention. Nevertheless, this argument is supported by the findings pertaining to increased prevalence of other atypical signs.

While Crowley et al, 2008 were limited as to the number of articles that they could incorporate in the study, their systematic review confirmed their hypothesis that cow’s milk proteins incorporate a causal role in the occurrence of chronic functional constipation in children. However, not much research has been done on this area, despite it being a common quandary in pediatric practice.

Conclusion

The three studies showed incorporated conclusive evidence that cow’s milk has a causal role in the occurrence of constipation. This is due to the incorporation of proteins in the milk. The evidence indicated that there was a causal link between the condition and milk protein, with some children showing increased prevalence of sensitivity to cow milk protein.
