Juvenile Criminality

Juvenile criminality is the act of young people under the legal age of being recognized as adult getting involved in unlawful misconduct. Delinquency has been a major problem in the society that requires quick solutions so as to save the lives of the future generation. In many instances, the juvenile cause tension in the community and threatens their well-being as well as that of the criminality victims. The society blames the parents being the primary causes of juvenile misconduct but in a real sense, all the community as a whole has the responsibility to shape the youths’ behavior. The young people do not at all times stay with their parents, they spend time at school, with friends as well as at the workplace where they interact with many other people. The young people get involved in brutality and burglary on their way to find satisfaction as well as living a high standard life at their tender age. The individual may not rectify the unethical behavior to which they carry on to adulthood. In this paper, juvenile delinquency is discussed in a profound extent as a problem in the society as well as the measures that can be taken to eradicate the issue.

It is inevitable to have a number of young people who get involved in delinquency in the society but it is possible to minimize if not eradicating such cases. That signifies the essence of juvenile courts in the society where the youths who get involved in criminality get sentenced according to the law. The society today is very involving due to technology advancement, thus the youths make use of the modern weapons and digital techniques to commit the criminal offenses. The juvenile has the desires of high standard lifestyle whose basic thing is capital. Therefore, they get involved in fishy behaviors such as brutality, robbery, burglary as well as information hacking among many other delinquencies (Bartollas, et.al 2017). Peer pressure, unethical upbringing, and poverty in the society significantly impacts juvenile delinquency. The environment in which the youths grows up in greatly shapes the behavior of the young people. Therefore, if one grows in an immoral community there is a greater tendency of them adopting the same conduct and end up becoming a threat to the society.

In bringing up the children parents are fundamental elements, but in the modern society, they seem to have forgotten their responsibility. Research has shown that a high percentage of parents today spend a lot of time at their work and recreation, thus ending up having no time to intermingle with their children. The duty of bringing up the children have been kept aside for the house helps who spend all their time at the homestead and get paid for the same. Therefore, the children’s behavior gets shaped by their characters and at many instances, these house helps do not give the appropriate attention to the children as it would have been given by the parents. There is no one to rectify the juvenile behaviors as they get eroded and they end up getting involved in serious criminal offenses that threatens their well-being as well as that of the community members. To get a sound solution for juvenile delinquency, parents have to take their responsibility of shaping their children behavior by spending enough time with them. It will enable them to identify the children’s flaws and problems, know how to solve them as well as shaping their conducts to responsible citizens who adhere to the nation’s law (Siegel, & Welsh, 2014).

Furthermore, peer pressure has played a significant role in fiercely developing juvenile criminality in the society. Today human being lives in a man eat man society where people try all that they can to utilize available resources to earn income. Human labor is an essential resource as it applies both intelligence and force. People make use of the young people who are pessimistic in nature and eager to earn money as fast as possible at their tender age without much struggle. Among the techniques that they are indulged in acquiring the money is through delinquency actions such as drug trafficking and burglary. Many juveniles get involved in misconducts because they are enticed or engaged in the actions by their friends and other peers who promise opportunities in illegalities (Thompson, & Bynum, 2016). Also, peers introduce others to drug abuse which is a major cause of juvenile delinquency as misused drugs lead to impaired judgments. Therefore, it is important to educate the youths on following self-instincts and principles so they will be able to absorb positive friends in their life who are morally upright. The young people are growing and developing thus the things fed to them will have great impacts on their behaviors and the kind of adults they will become.

The community significantly influences the young people and takes part in making them get involved in misconduct. For instance, consider when the juvenile is in their learning institutions and other public places. They misbehave and their elders cannot take actions of letting them know they are not doing the right thing. The public does not have time to advice the juvenile as they just mind about their business but at the end, they are the victims of juvenile delinquency. For example, consider the act of the government legalizing armament in the learning institutions. The students are authorized to carry weapons such as handbags to the school for their security purposes. Yes, it is well that weapons are for security measures but on the other hand, they take advantage of the same and use the arms to carry out delinquencies. Cases of students shooting their fellow colleagues and tutors as well as hurting community members through brutality and robbery (Shoemaker, 2017). Therefore, the community has to take appropriate measures such as advising the young people and the government prohibiting dangerous laws such as students’ armament to eradicate juvenile delinquency.

From the above discussion, juvenile delinquency is a threat to the society and it significantly causes negative effects on the economy. Therefore, it is everyone’s responsibility to curb it starting with the government, parents, and community in general to shape the juvenile behavior. The society development greatly depends on the young generation thus it is vital to put in place sound techniques in the society in areas such as juvenile courts and other public institutions that enhance ethnicity and eradicate juvenile delinquency.

Abstract

There are many reasons associated with juvenile delinquency and some of these include maltreatment, environmental factors, family instability, imitation from others, criminal neighborhoods and poverty among the families and places where these young people live. From the resources analyzed it is true that juvenile delinquency is most of the time not the problem or not caused by the desires of the youths but rather caused by experiences and issues the youths face and this is a difficult situation to deal with. The different articles offer ways to deal with the situations which face children and which lead to early offending in ways that do not bring them into situations which are not comfortable for example being arrested and tried in courts of law. However, the most important question is are the kids who are involved in early offending different from the ones who undergo the same issues and do not get involved in offending? The other question is how much money can be used to solve the issue and which strategy is the best in dealing with the issue of juvenile delinquency since it seems to get out of hand.

Statement of the Problem

Delinquency among the young people is a nationwide problem. However, delinquency does not always happen with all the youths and some youths especially those from well off families and those areas inhabited by what can be called economically or financially affluent are not majorly affected by youth delinquency. From the comments of Cuentas (2018), it is clear that youth delinquency is a process or a result of being exposed to situations which are not pleasing or even worthy for a person to live in. firstly the people of color and specifically black people tend to live in areas which are prone to crime and this results to the youths learning the ways of crime from the neighborhoods. This is because crime does not always change with location where people travel but remains in a neighborhood and the type of people a person associates with determine the kind of person they become.

However, these crime neighborhoods can be avoided as Cuentas states. however, in as much as they can be avoided, most of the time it is not even the neighborhoods that drives youths into crime. The major reason as to why youth get into crime is witnessing violent behavior and generally lacking opportunities for them to go on with their lives in the best manner possible. when youths lack opportunities because the government does not want to invest into their area, they get to understand that they are not valued in the society and even though they want to be good they end up in crime as it the only consolation they have because they trust nobody sees them and nobody cares about them. The youths also get to learn about systemic racism and even though they try, most of the times they get turned down and they find the experience very disheartening when they try to look for opportunities and every time they are turned down. However, this paper discusses the many reasons as to why youths especially from low-income families find it difficult to go on with normal life and resort to crime mainly because of lack of opportunities.

Research Hypothesis

The research hypothesis for this research is that; increased crime rates among African American youths from low-income areas is contributed to highly by the lack of opportunities in their areas.

The null hypothesis for the research is: lack of opportunities has no effect on the increased crime rates among the youths from low-income families.

Research Design and Methods

The research will use deductive research design. deductive reasoning research design is the type of research design that is based on deducing specific statements from general ones. For example, youths from financially unstable families engage in criminal activities. The other statement deductive statement under this might be Andrew is a youth from financially unstable family and therefore Andrew is likely to engage in criminal activities.

The research will also use cross-sectional design in that the research will be studied at one particular point in time. The major way of testing my hypothesis will be through observation, questionnaires and interviews of the resource persons who in this case will be both black and white youths from different financial backgrounds. I will also use secondary data for this research. Secondary data refers to the research done on a particular issue in the past. I will use journals and researches to bring out the fact that many people of color from low-income backgrounds engage in criminal activities due to lack of opportunities.

‌This book portion discusses in chapter 2 (The Development of Delinquency), discusses the reasons as to why delinquency among the youth occurs and, in this part, mainly the reasons why delinquency among the youths is prevalent is that youths lack of opportunities and this is especially with the youths of color and those from areas inhabited by low-income communities.

Provide Opportunities for Children and Youth. (n.d.). Ojjdp.ojp.gov. https://ojjdp.ojp.gov/sites/g/files/xyckuh176/files/action/sec4.htm

This study looks into the manner in which children presented with opportunities are likely to be better than those who are not presented with opportunities. This is because according to the study, youths and young people always envision good lives ahead of them and this is not always possible since lack of opportunities makes them suffer a lot in the process. Therefore, even though some succeed, it is not always the case for most of the youths who are not provided with opportunities which can make them successful.

Young, S., Greer, B., & Church, R. (2017). Juvenile delinquency, welfare, justice and therapeutic interventions: a global perspective. BJPsych bulletin, 41(1), 21-29.

‌In this research the study looks at the juvenile delinquency tendencies as well as how these happen. The research also looks into the welfare of the youths and their families, if justice is served for those who are found in criminal activities as well as how just are the processes since some of the criminal activities are as a result of resource mis-appropriation. The last important part are therapeutic interventions employed by different governments and agencies towards the issue. If focuses on a global perspective from countries which are economically less developed to the countries with high economic development like the United States of America and the Great Britain.

Shader, M. (2001). Risk factors for delinquency: An overview. Washington, DC: US Department of Justice, Office of Justice Programs, Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention.

This research looks into the different ways in which delinquency among the youths can be explained. As shader states, there are many different variations of explanations as to why different people engage in criminal activities or just mere delinquent practices. Therefore, this study looks into the different factors which lead to delinquency as well as what can be done to deal with these issues because even with justice and apprehension of those who are involved does not fully solve the issue but just covers the issue while in real sense there is a deep-seated problem which needs to be solved.

Poverty and Juvenile Delinquency in the United States – Free Essay Example. (2019, December 12). StudyDriver.com. https://studydriver.com/poverty-and-juvenile-delinquency-in-the-united-states/

In this article, poverty is explained in the manner in which it is a big contributor towards juvenile delinquency and how it matters that poverty leads to democracy while at the same time there is punishment. It states that for every year the unite states uses about $21 billion for the sake of curbing and dealing with juvenile crime. this becomes a very difficult problem if such amount of money is used for juvenile delinquency and still it does not end. Based on this the article does on to give suggestions of how the issue can be dealt with and can be solved.

In this article there is a discussion of how juvenile delinquency is caused by violent neighborhoods, imitation, family issues, psychological issues and the situation of being street kids. However, with all these causes the article takes the issue from a positive side and discusses that there is a chance that these issues can be solved and people return back of normal. One such way of solving the problems is generally rehabilitation and trying to create sense into the young people why they should not get involved into such cruel behaviors.

‌this research looks into the area of juvenile or youth from a point of view of relationship between the cases of offending and early maltreatment of the same kids. For example, 5002 students in grade 3 were studied and when they got into age 6 to 8 years, they were noticed to have continuous offending cases and therefore the research offers solutions as ways of making sure that the students are not maltreated when they are young.

Analysis

Once data is collected the major ways of analysis will be by using essays to explain the results especially the interviews which is a qualitative approach while charts, tables and measures of central tendency like mean, mode and median will also be used.

Results

Results expected from the field and from the secondary data is that young people are highly affected by their environments and that whatever they go through determines the kind of people they become. Therefore, the best way to solve the issue of juvenile or youth delinquency is through helping the kids to grow in a healthy environment and making the environments safe for them to grow in and develop into positive and good people.

Recommendations

Based on the results it is clear that children formation is what determines what kind of people they become as they grow up. Whether a child is treated well or not determines if they will be able to be good people or fall under offending crimes. Therefore, good environment is necessary for the children to grow in. the other important thing is reduction of poverty levels and employing ways to curb crime in the criminal areas.

Option 3: Lessons About The Practice Of Journalism And The News Media Industry From “She Said” By Jodi Kantor and Megan Twohey

Introduction

In their book, She said: Breaking the sexual harassment story that helped ignite a movement Jodi Kanto and Megan Twohey explores how cases of sexual harassment and intimidation of women has been normalized at the workplace for ages. Despite the advances and progress that women have made over the years, they have had to withstand humiliating and denigrating experiences with little or no course for redress (Kanto and Twohey 1). Women of all cadres from the distinguished female scientist to the waitress in out favorite diner, have endured distressing situations despite sexual harassment being against the law. For several years, they have watched their assailants get applauded, without facing any dire consequences (Kanto and Twohey 1). However, the exposure of recent sexual harassment scandals exposed by the media has laid bare the magnitude and the endemic reality of the issue. Individuals in power have managed to curtail their inhumane treatment of women, among them including Harvey Weinstein, Brett Kavanaugh, and the United States president Donald Trump, to mention but a few. Therefore, news media industry is powerful that can not only raise public awareness on power abuse and the moral patriarchal rot in organizations.

She Said- Book Content

She Said is a book by Jodi Kantor and Megan Towhey which covers decades of Harvey Weinstein’s sexual harassment and assault against both junior employees and A-list actors (Kantor and Twohey 7) . He is the co-founder of “The Weinstein Company”, and one of the most influential and powerful Hollywood producers. Weinstein rose to prominence in the entertainment industry by turning small films into major hits, and as a result of astute promotional ability. He instigated the careers of many megastars, and won about five Oscars throughout his active years. Weinstein was also politically active and raised funds for democratic candidates such as Hillary Clinton. Although rumors of sexual harassment followed Weinstein no complains were made on record as reported by the authors.

The story begins with Rose McGowan, an actor, turning down an interview with Kantor after she had alleged publicly that a Hollywood producer had raped her, she however withheld his identity (Kantor and Twohey 8). Twohey and Kantor had constantly met women who declined talking to them not only out of fear or intimidation, but the possible risk of financial ruin. Gradually, the journalists realized Weinstein’s sexual harassment had been concealed by gagging clauses, accompanied by pay-offs (Peters and Besley 458). The gagging clauses were further accompanied by absurdly strict terms which prevented accusers from hearing the stories of other victims, and sharing the allegations with their family, spouses, or the media (Ence 165). Finally, as different women narrated their encounters on sexual harassment, Twohey and Kanto started realizing, it was not possible for all these women to falsify their experiences, especially because fundamental similarities in details often emerged. It is nearly impossible for numerous persons to invent similar details.

Consequently, the authors cover the Kavanaugh hearings, which illustrates the how easy it is for men in power to cover up cases of sexual harassment or assault. It revealed the shortcomings of the justice system in addressing the accusations levelled against reputable individuals. According to Kanto and Twohey, Brasey Ford turned from a victim to a casualty of the growing backlash on women who expose their perpetrators. Her encounter in seeking justice demonstrates the futility of filing charges of sexual assault against men in power. The only assistance she could get would end up being politicized, thus masking the truth despite

Towards the end of the book, Twohey and Kantor explain how they came up with the idea of gathering women who had been victims of sexual assault. Their primary intention was to find answers to the fundamental questions regarding the sequence of events that occurred after speaking up and their views regarding everything that happened (Kantor and Twohey 249). In most of the cases, it became apparent that most of them were facing different challenges when the harassments occurred. Twohey and Kantor have more than enough evidence and are convinced that Weinstein is a serial abuser, but they still need more evidence before printing the story. Eventually, Irwin Reiter, a senior executive from Weinstein’s company decided to break his silence on matter by sharing Laureen O’Connor’s memo, and disclosing about the sums of money that were disbursed to various women to Kantor (Kantor and Twohey 104). It turns out Weinstein paid off women in a bid to silence them, this ultimately became evidence for the veracity of their claims.

She Said- How The Book Was Received And Controversies Surrounding It

She Said was received as a brave book that brought to light various systematic truths that some were aware of, but afraid to speak up. To most readers, it stood out as the best non-fiction story they had ever read, and it is one of the best journalism books. The book depicts a culture that fosters/enables sexual misconduct, consequently, sparking the #MeToo movement (Cobb and Horeck 489). The movement, in turn, prompted the media to take stories on sexual harassment more seriously, and also helped the women abused by Weinstein to file formal charges against him (Jaffe 80). Most importantly, within days after its publication, the book stirred a plethora of stories about sexual abuse and harassment from women who had suffered for years in silence trusting and hoping that people would finally understand their stories with no judgement (Cobb and Horeck 489). Consequently, numerous men from all socio-economic status were outed for harassment or mistreating their coworkers (Jaffe 80). Until today, the #MeToo movement remains a source of commonality and solidarity for sexual harassment victims.

Gwyneth Paltrow, one of the key informants, was at the time facing a public relation crisis, and was concerned that the Weinstein story would be perceived as a fake exposé should she go on record as a sexual harassment victim in the Weinstein company (Kantor and Twohey 61). Paltrow successful company Goop was under scrutiny for lying to consumers about the $66 vaginal egg product. This “jade egg” saga slowed down Paltrow testimony. Twohey and Kantor also note that Paltrow initially did not want to take part in She Said as she was privately concerned that her employees alongside with her might not be able to face any more controversies (Kantor and Twohey 61). Paltrow explained that she had about 100 employees working for her, and who depended on the income to raise their children and pay mortgages, and having more controversies surrounding her might harm them.

Uncovering The Allegations About Weinstein

It was difficult for Twohey and Kantor to uncover the allegations about Weinstein. The authors had to start their investigation by locating former employees of Weinstein and Miramax. Initially, some employees were scared of speaking up due to fear of retaliation and Weinstein volatility (Kantor and Twohey 20). They were worried that Weinstein would ruin their lives once he discovered their identity. Moreover, many of the employees also said that Weinstein’s associates intimidate and confront those that defied him, and they dreaded that they could also be targeted (Peters and Besley 458). Multiple sources claimed that Weinstein often boasted about sending items about those who spoke ill against him in media outlets. Several sources pointed to the Gutierrez’s case, and how negatives items pertaining to her sexual history were planted after she reported to the police. The items rapidly began appearing in gossip pages in New York and impugned on her credibility. The reporters were eventually able to uncover multiple allegations from female employees about Weinstein’s inappropriate behavior, patterns of retaliation and threats, and payoffs for remaining silent about sexual harassment.

Obstacles The Authors Faced When Obtaining, Verifying, And Publishing Information

As earlier stated, the authors underwent a difficult time trying to persuade Weinstein’s sexual assault and harassment victims. There was a period where Twohey and Kantor drafted a joint bio and sent it to actresses to convince them that they were impact-oriented journalists, hence their experiences will be taken with utmost seriousness. After listening to the allegations made by the former female employees, the authors took them seriously as they had initially promised and were set on a vigorous verification process (Kantor and Twohey 31). First, the authors decided to engage with Lanny Davis, a public relation person hired by Weinstein, on the background. Twohey and Kantor thought it would be valuable to hear out Davis, based on their experience persons with information to hide often sell themselves out by accident. On their first background interview, the authors were able to make him speak up on the secret financial settlements that had been made. Ultimately, Davis provided useful information that was incorporated into the story.

The Weinstein story required significant evidence in order to be published: ideally records accounts, and written financial and legal proof. The quest for the latter proof accompanied by overcoming obstacles thrown by Weinstein and his associates, the legal system, and a corporate culture is what makes the book an instant investigative journalism classic. The verification process is full of clandestine meetings, emotional interviews, and unraveling secret documents (Farrow 11). In this case, the verification process mainly evolved around tracking the financial settlements made between the perpetrator and victims of sexual misconduct. The financial settlements were not only enabling impunity, enforcing silence, and pernicious, but also created reporting avenues (Farrow 11). Complex transactions like the one Weinstein made to his victims can hardly be kept secret as these kinds of agreements involve large sums of money, negotiations, and lawyers. Therefore, it was inevitable that other agents, colleagues, friends, and family members found out. Whereas Weinstein thought that the financial settlements could prevent the story, they actually made the story.

The authors encountered obstacles while trying to get the information to the public. The book points out delay tactics from Weinstein and his team. As the book’s publication date neared, about 5 of Weinstein’s lawyers including Charles Harder, Lisa Bloom, Lanny Davis, and David Boies continually requested for additional time to respond from reporters (Kantor and Twohey 143). After the response deadline passed, Harder threatened to sue the New York Times for defamation in an 18-page memo, and further requested for additional 14 days to respond. Moreover, Harder described the former female employees providing information to the reporters as disgruntled, and having ulterior motives. He requested preservation of the information provided by the sources, as according to him the statements were basically defamatory and false (Kantor and Twohey 144). The New York Times perceived this as “legalistic bullying”.

No ethical issues are evident in the story. The authors protected their sources, at numerous points in the story the authors could have rushed to print their story and it would have still made headlines and boost circulation and traffic of the New York Times. However, these claims would have been easily dismissed by a lawyer eventually destroying the reputation and lives of the female employees who had entrusted their testimonies to them. Moreover, the authors also patiently waited on the response of Weinstein and his team although it was evident that they were delaying the book’s publication. The authors are at the foreground of the narrative. Twohey and Kantor provide the reader with immediate information they are actively seeking about the characters presented in the story. Details are offered through narrative, description, character actions, dialogue, and that what readers mainly concentrate on. As a result, the book provides readers with in depth and current information as they follow the Weinstein’s story.

Conclusion

She said is a powerful illustration of factors that make journalism impactful. Twohey and Kantor take readers through the meticulous, time consuming, and thorough work that is required or intrinsic to gaining the trust of victims, gathering evidence, and maneuvering obstacles that hindered their paths to publishing the article. The authors not only exposed Weinstein but also his associates and the system that kept him safe at the expense of his victims. In the process, they also reveal a legal system which promises justice to its people but often comes up too short. She said further proves journalism and news media can persuade, educate, and help persons form opinion. Most importantly, it portrays journalism as an overseer of abuse and excess use of power by powerful individuals and the government. Furthermore, Twohey and Kantor commitment and dedication are pivotal to the #Me too movement, this further illustrates that there are millions of viewers and readers globally are relying on the media to offer fact-based, honest, authoritative reporting that shed light on issues on public interest.

Apparell is a retail fashion company that sells all sorts of clothes, shoes, jewelry and other accessories. We pride ourselves in the best customer experience, both online and in our twenty stores across the country. The company started in 1998 specializing mainly in women’s clothes, but as demand for affordable and high quality athleisure increased, it expanded to men and children’s fashion as well. The company remains devoted to serving our customers quickly and efficiently, ensuring that casual wear looks as sophisticated and effortless as possible. Our employees are highly motivated individuals who have grown with the company because they enjoy their jobs. They have flexible working hours, good working conditions, good pay and a listening management team. In the recent past, we have been expanding more into the online space to broaden our customer base further. We recognize that our customers may not always have time to dash into a store but would instead make their purchases online. To make the process more efficient, we are looking to hire a Sales Manager specifically for the online sales department.

In today’s fast-paced world, many people turn to the internet to look for all kinds of goods and services. For a company or business to be successful, they must have a robust online presence for several reasons. First, the company can be able to engage with customers and understand exactly what the customer wants (Locander et al. 2018). This will help the company to tailor its goods and services for a specific market they are targeting. The company also gets feedback on customer satisfaction. In case of any corrections, the business can get right on it. The internet is also the fastest and cheapest way to advertise. Advertising on newspapers, billboards and TV costs significant sums of money, and small businesses cannot afford such expenses. The position requires a person who takes cognizance of all these facts and incorporates them in making daily, weekly and monthly plans.

Applicants must hold a certificate in sales and marketing and whatever level, be it a diploma, bachelor or master’s level. Of more importance will be experience that the person has. Applicants must have spent time working in a highly demanding position requiring them to make decisions on their feet. Our company has thousands of customers countrywide, and this means all of them must receive feedback in a timely and professional manner. There won’t always be time to think over many questions; therefore the sales manager should have decision making skills. They must also be able to command a team of people to meet a specific goal. Leadership skill is a must-have considering the position requires coordination with other departments to ensure that sales and online advertising turn in growing revenues. Experience in the fashion industry will e an added advantage since many of the tasks to be handled will be already familiar.

Some of the tasks that the employee will be required to perform include overseeing the online sales team. The team is made up of about thirty people spread out across six states. There have to be weekly meetings to coordinate. Some of the things to be addressed in the sessions include weekly projections and sales targets. Each store is of a different size and considering the location and other dynamics; an appropriate plan has to be made. Because it is impossible to have physical meetings, they will be organized through Skype and video conferencing. Customer feedback will be the main priority, and the manager will review reports from store sales managers every week. In addition to this, the sales manager will work with the accounts department to calculate how much online sales contribute to the overall revenues made by the store.

Personality is a significant part of the application process. The applicant has to be outgoing, friendly and slow to anger. The manager should be able to make the customer feel valued and appreciated. One of the ways to do this is to ensure that their opinions are answered and taken into consideration in making plans for the future. The sales manager, therefore, has to be willing to listen to and accommodate different opinions even if they may appear extreme or rude. Managing the online sales team means dealing with diverse people and the manager should be able to exercise patience, accommodate different opinions while at the same time retaining the authority that comes with their position.

When looking for a qualified candidate who makes the best fit for the company, online job boards are some of the quickest way to go. The first job board is Robert Half. The company enjoys exclusive deals with many companies meaning that companies only post opportunities to the website. Some of the advantages aside from exclusivity are that job seekers receive alerts if they have subscribed. Along with this is the salary guide that guides employers and employees towards the right offer for their position (Jansen et al. 2005). Trends in the workplace are analyzed often so that employers can stay up to date. CareerBuilder is another job board that has been around for a long time, about twenty years. The advantage of this website is that job seekers can search for their desired positions based on several criteria including salary and location. The job board has established partnerships with various media outlets and posts adverts from the outlets.

The third online job board is Indeed, one of the most well-known job sites locally and globally. The job board compiles jobs from other job boards and agencies and posts them to its website. The search criteria can either be local or global. Job.com is a meeting place for job seekers and employers. Applicants can upload their resumes so that employers can look through them. The thoughtful point is that the CVs are not posted to the website to allow people currently employed to look for jobs elsewhere. The fifth online job board is Ladders. This website is dedicated to high-level executives making upward of $100,000 in annual salary. Job seekers looking for managerial positions have to pay a subscription fee so that they can access the screened opportunities.

Women Job Satisfaction in Policing

In this paper, I will talk about the factors that lead to job satisfaction and job dissatisfaction for women professionals in the policing services. I will focus on police officers since their functions are known as policing. The number of women in the police department is small compared to that of men, but it has been growing significantly. In these days, people have paid more attention to having more women in the police sector, which has created a need to recruit new female officers, train and promote the existing officers. There are several professional attributes that women have, and they are valuable to the law enforcement department. These attributes are the reason why policymakers are being encouraged to balance the number of men and women in the policing sector. When women are allowed to participate equally in all police roles and then maintain law and order will be reflected and responded to the society. In this essay, the satisfaction and dissatisfaction of women in Police and the innovation that will bring change will be discussed.

Satisfying Factors

Job satisfaction has gained popularity ranging from researchers to practitioners in various disciplines. According to many employed individuals, job satisfaction can be termed as consent with their working environment. A worker’s happiness can tell how satisfied the employee is, and therefore a happy worker means they are confident with their job. An employee’s satisfaction is vital since it has a significant impact on employee attendance, productivity, and health. The previous study supposes that the factors influencing women’s employee satisfaction are; salary, flexible work, job security, motivators, managerial ranks, and stress.

Salary has been a big concern for women in policing, and in most cases, women tend to get a lower salary than their male colleagues. A survey conducted by the women’s policy research showed no difference in the amount of salary earned by male and female police officers. Women have been underestimated in what they can do in the labor industry, thus prompting many employers to underpay them. In the police department, the job description of a police officer is the same regardless of their gender, and therefore the salary should not vary. Equal pay shows that the police department does not discriminate against employees according to their genders, and this is one reason why more women are willing to join the law enforcement force.

Another factor promoting women in the police department is job flexibility. Most police departments worldwide offer their employees job flexibility, which helps workers balance their work life and personal life. Availability of leave days and maternity leaves for women in the police department has significantly been of great help to women in this sector. Jobs that offer women maternity and leave days tend to have more women employees, and they find satisfaction in what they do. Lack of a flexible job is one factor that has led to few women in the labor force. Women play a vital role in society, like taking care of families, and for them to balance work life and personal life, flexible jobs are essential.

Dissatisfying Factors

Many factors encourage women to join the police force, but that does not mean women in the police department don’t find their job dissatisfying—one of the factors that most women in police face is discrimination. The discrimination can either be from people within the work department or outside. Discrimination at a workplace can be from seniors who fail to give women equal opportunities as men. Most leaders in the police department are male, meaning that women continue to be undervalued when it comes to leadership (Meeussen et al., 2017). Women in the police department, in most cases, get abused by male colleagues because they think women are weak, and sometimes they face brutality from male lawbreakers.

Sexual harassment is another factor that discourages most women from being members of the law enforcement force. Sexual harassment can be from colleagues or other individuals in their line of work. Despite the number of women in the police force increases, women remain victims of discrimination and prejudice. Women’s physical strength is less than that of men, which is one of the significant factors that promote sexual harassment of women. In some cases, female police officers get intimidated and sexually harassed by their male colleagues, like their seniors who demand sex. Most police seniors have abused their power and used it for their gain and to discriminate against the women in the police force, which has discouraged women from being in this department.

Interventions that Might Make a Favorable Difference for Women

Representation of women in the police force is crucial because the voice of women in society and the police force will be well represented. Lawmakers and policymakers have to develop laws and policies that protect women’s rights in the police department. In the case of meritocracy in the police department, promotion should be due to the merits of an individual and not gender-based. Several departments in the world have worked to ensure gender parity, and from their experiences, several lessons have been drawn. Historically, lawsuits have been used to bring about change in different departments, and it was concluded that it is not easy to bring change to people who are not ready for change. Therefore, government officials and other political departments need to mandate equal treatment of women in Police and make policies that protect women from discrimination.

Another intervention is for all police departments to implement strict policies that address gender discrimination, Biasness, and sexual harassment. The departments should offer training to police officers on matters concerning gender equality and sexual harassment. Strict disciplinary measures should also be set for cases where the established policies are broken. Friendly family policies should also be adopted in the police force, where women are allowed to balance their work life and personal life. The family policies will cover marriage, maternity leaves, childcare, and off days. Since the police department is male-dominated, they should work to ensure that they offer the support of their female counterparts (Jones, 2017). The help will promote a unified police department that is ready to protect society.

John Wayne Gacy a serious mischievous killer

Introduction

There are famous criminals in America who have been reported everywhere. John Wayne Gacy is an example of a criminal whereby words like a socialist, entertainer, businessman, murderer, psychotic sadistic individual are words one would use to describe him. John Gacy was considered as a nice man because he often would dress up as a clown and entertain kids. The image of him being a good person ended when he started to rape, torture and kill people. Perhaps one would say John did entertain kids to hide his real nature and obtain victims for his crimes.

Background Information

John Gacy had a rough past as his dad was an alcoholic. Also, at a young age Gacy was struck with an instrument that caused him to have a blood clot. His mother showed much care to John unlike his mother who was harsh and treated him like a grown up man. Unfortunately, his father warned his mother that John was going to be queer, but no one knew that he was going to be a serial killer clown (Carpozi, G., & Wheeler, P. 1972). Because of John’s fathers verbal abuse, he carried that energy with his victims. He didn’t have any compassion or sympathy because of his fathers’ harsh words. This can be linked to theories that describe how one is treated at an early age determines how one will treat others.

It is so ironical that as Gacy grew up he wanted to be a police officer yet ended up a big criminal. John was a good student at start but at teen age he begun to transfer schools and later dropped out while in Vegas. Years later while in prison he decided to finish high school and took college courses.

John Wayne Gacy was a contractor who was married at a young age. Criminal life started when he would help the employees of the businesses he did manage to steal. When his second born was born he was accused of harassing a 16-year-old boy sexually and was taken to prison. After his first time in jail, his wife divorced him and took the kids away from him as well. Afterwards, Gacy moved into a small apartment where he lured, tortured, and raped young men (Kozenczak, J. R., & Kozencz, K. M. 2003). Gacy was respected in his community because he was a successful business man who had his own company.

His spare time was the problem because while posing as “Pogo the Clown”, Gacy was really on the lookout for his next victim. He would lure his victims in by promising them that he had construction work for them. Once the victims were in his house, Gacy would torture them with utensils such as a rope. Gacy would kill his victims and bury them under his house and sometimes by the river close to his house. Gacy never did his torture or killings outside of his house but sometimes the bodies would come up outside of his house (Anderson, K. R., & Braun, B. R. 1994). Unfortunately, the police caught up to Gacy’s ways because even a serial killer can make mistakes.

Conviction

At Waterloo Iowa he was accused by a 15-year-old and another boy of sexually abusing them. Gacy denied the allegations but was indicted by a grand jury later that month. He paid another boy to beat up one of the accusers. He was not affected by his actions but went on harassing other people sexually. He was found competent to stand trial, fortunately he pled guilty and was sentenced to 10 years in prison but only served 21 months (Sullivan, & Maiken, 2013). John was said to have made 33 male killings and rape cases. Gacy convicted on March 13, 1980 of 33 counts of 1st degree murder. He was sentenced to 21 consecutive life sentences and 12 death sentences. Executed in 1994 when he died after a lethal injection (Anderson, K. R., & Braun, B. R. 1994). This was justice since all h deserved was to die.

Conclusion

John Wayne was a psychopath who would blame his actions on the victims and say that he was trying to defend himself. John’s actions begun at an early age for example during his childhood when he was 10, he buried his mother’s panties the same way he would busy the bodies when he got older and committed murder. Ones actions and future is always seen and can be judged at an early age as John’s father did.

01/A (LO#01 – Define service and identify how service businesses differ from manufacturing businesses)

Service is an activity offered by an individual, group, company, or any other party to help with intangible activities and does not change ownership of anything. Service is generally production that can be associated with or not with physical production. Services are commercial activities that add quality and help consumers at particular moments and places as a result of bringing about the needed outcome in – or on behalf of – the beneficiary (Angelo, 2017). However, service businesses significantly differ from manufacturing businesses following some of the unique characteristics of services. There are major distinguishing characteristics of services that have a great impact when differentiating service businesses from manufacturing businesses. These characteristics include intangibility, variability, and lack of ownership, heterogeneity, inseparability, and perishability (Angelo, 2017). Service businesses are mostly associated with short periods being offered, for instance, in the tourism sector, where I had a good experience during my last vacation. I had a good service at Banff National Park, Canada, where my family visited the last vacation. Tourism is a major sector in hospitality that has matured as an industry and calls upon providing various services to different customers to their satisfaction. For instance, the implication is one key characteristic that distinguishes a service from manufactured goods. This is because during service production customer or the service recipient is engaged in the production and delivery of the service. During our vacation, when traveling across the park, we were involved in transportation to different places where we were guided to avoid an accident.

Variability is another service characteristic that distinguishes service from manufactured goods. This characteristic implies that the quality of the services may vary depending on who is offered the service to a customer. While with manufactured goods, anybody can provide the product and does not need a specialist like in service businesses where only a particular person can provide it, unlike the manufactured products. Perishability is another characteristic that differentiates the two. Services cannot be preserved for future sale or use (Angelo, 2017). This means that if a group is being prepared a dinner for a night, the service cannot be stored for later use; even if some people have not turned yet, the service will take place, and when the other people come, they will order for their services. Lack of ownership is a key differentiating factor between service and manufactured products (Angelo, 2017). This is because in the service industry service provided the customer does not completely own it but only has access to use it. For instance, in tourism, a customer has access to tourists’ cars but does not own them since they move you around the park and leave them within the premises when your time is over for being within the premises.

#01/B (LO#02 & #03 – Explain the importance of strategic planning, and identify the steps in the strategic planning process)

Strategy is having a plan of actions or steps purposely designed to attain a particular aim in an organization. Strategy planning is an important process in which organizations or business leaders/managers define the organization’s vision and future objectives and goals (Angelo, 2017). This process involves a major sequence of steps in which the set objectives and goals would be attained to attain its defined vision. Strategic planning is an important process that enables leaders of an organization to track their progress towards achieving its goals and objectives. Additionally, having a strategy is crucial since it involves SWOT analysis which is vital when setting goals and objectives. This is because through SWOT analysis leader of an organization can determine its strengths and weaknesses that can prevent the business from achieving its set goals. The strategic planning process involves major steps: performing a SWOT analysis, formulating strategies to use, implementing the strategies, and monitoring and evaluating results. Every organization’s strategic planning process must follow these steps to succeed. In the tourism sector, like in Banff National Park, when performing a SWOT analysis, I would figure out the park’s strengths in terms of the sites that are attacking more tourists across the globe and how it could use the potential strength to keep it at that level. To effectively know the weaknesses, I would provide some forms that tourists would fill in to give feedback regarding services provided to know where they can improve.

Secondly, when formulating strategies, for instance, developing a website where customers can book slots during their vacations and services they would like. The third step would be implementing the strategy involving a web designer who would develop a very good web for the park that all people can access using their different devices to book the slots regarding the number of people who will be visiting the park at different times. Lastly, it would be monitoring and evaluating the strategy implementation process over a certain period (Angelo, 2017). To implement this step, I would visit the visitor’s book for a particular period, like one to three months, and compare if there is an increased number of tourists compared to the number of visitors of a previous season before designing the web. Moreover, I would have interviews with different directors to survey to determine if designing the web in the tourism sector is effective.

#01/C (LO#04 – Recognize the basic components of a strategic service vision)

A strategic service vision comprises of identification of a particular target market segment, establishment of a service concept that is aimed at addressing particular and targeted consumer demands, codification of an operating technique to support the implemented service concept, and designing an effective service delivery system to support and the established operating technique (Angelo, 2017). The components mentioned above of the strategic service vision are crucial and basic because they greatly help any business like the tourism business where you have been a customer. For example, in the park, they have implemented these basic components of the strategic service vision because there have been established effective service delivery systems to customers to meet their needs when they visit the park. For instance, upon visiting the park, there are forms that tourists fill out upon arriving indicating their expectations that they anticipate fulfilling, and they are offered service in relation to their expectations. And surveys are conducted through questionnaires to ensure that their expectations are met to prevent customers from being disappointed and providing negative compliments about them.

#01/D (LO#05 – List the keys to delivering good service)

It is significant to various and crucial principles to deliver good services to customers and attain their satisfaction. This is because failure to adhere to those ways will lead to poor service provision to customers. These vital keys to delivering good services include: keeping in mind who you are as a service provider to customers and not forgetting (Angelo, 2017). In the tourism business at Banff National Park, employees who provide customer service have been trained to not interfere with tourists but keep work professional and stick to their roles, not misbehaving with the visitors. Secondly, each employee at the park acts like a manager such that not at any given point can an employee watch wrongdoing and keep a blind eye to the action; they address it effectively. A third key way to deliver good services integrated into tourism is correctly handling all moments of truth (Angelo, 2017). For example, if any visitors do a wrong that they were unaware of and openly revealed themselves, no penalty is imposed on them, but they are given a warning. Key ways of delivering good services have been implemented through the customer care desk since customer messages, calls, and inquiries are immediately attended to. This shows that responding promptly has been well initiated. Lastly, for efficient services, the business has hired very good employees who are patient with the customers and have been kept happy through the provision of allowances (Angelo, 2017).
