1 Transformational Leadership in Saudi Arabian Cultural Context: Prospects and Challenges Abstract Transformational leadership focuses on the proactive change of individual employees and the organizations, and it has become highly relevant worldwide. The present paper attempts to unravel the dynamics of transformation leadership and its relevance for Saudi managers. The sub-areas discussed in the paper focus on the cultural values, organizational culture, and the effect of Islam on leadership in Saudi Arabia. The paper has two objectives—to conceptually study the existing and emerging threads of the transformational leadership and align them with the Saudi Arabian cultural perspective. The paper attempts to touch upon the pivotal issues, which define the Saudi Arabian leadership, namely, the deep-rooted values and the nature of the culture in which leadership qualities are found to be embedded. This study reviews the available literature on the Saudi leadership attributes and their manifestation in the management of Saudi organizations. Successful cases of Saudi business and organization leaders reinforce the learning about the dynamics of leadership in the Saudi Arabian context, and provide a framework for understanding the emerging paradigms and challenges of leadership in Saudi Arabia.
