Content: Be sure that you have a historical or cultural focus and explore the relationship between your topic and sexism.  Keep your focus narrow. This is only a 3-4 page essay. The broader the topic, the more difficult to keep your essay focused. Your essay must provide an analysis of your topic as it relates to gender. Do not simply write about historical female figures. Your essay should not be a biography; it needs to be an analysis.  Meaning, if you chose to discuss the Salem witch trials, rather than focusing on different women who were persecuted during the trials, you need to discuss the connection between gender and those assumed to be witches. Essentially, your essay needs to show how your topic is connected to sexism. Structure: This essay will function as a literature review. Literature reviews use secondary sources, and do not report new or original experimental work. Meaning you are to use the research to make an argument, rather than stating your own opinion. You may “analyze†research by using other research to either support, or refute arguments.  Refer to at least two course readings in your essay. A total of 5 scholarly sources are required. All sources MUST be academic/scholarly sources.  All factual information should have a cited reference. Direct quotes, if used at all, should be used extremely sparingly.  Essays should be approximately 1,000 words (not including your reference page). Essays should not be substantially under or over the 1000 word requirement (approximately 3-4 pages) Essays should be double-spaced, times new roman font. Your in-text citations, as well as reference page, must adhere to APA format. You do not need an abstract or a titled page.  You will submit your final copy via Canvas.
