SPEECH WRITING

Speech writing is a very important part of language learning.A speech has several components that must be followed to produce a masterpiece.Components of speech writing include the following:

Identify Purpose: Informative, descriptive, persuasive, entertaining, etc.

Goal Statement: General purpose what you are going to inform/describe, persuade your audience

Thesis Statement: This is a sentence that will summarize your message-a list of three items you may be discussing, or three aspects, issues/concerns.

Body

The main points of your speech. Discusses what you stated in the thesis in the order in which you presented the information. Includes an introduction that gets the audiences’ attention and transitional statements as each topic is introduced.In the body of the speech, specifically during the introduction you can establish credibility by either quoting or citing information from sources you have researched- newspapers, magazines, industry journals, interviews and by gathering facts, figures, statistics, narratives or examples. Relating the topic to the audience will help gain immediate attention.

Introduction

Attention Getter: A statement that gets attention through a passionate feelings, humor,personal experience, an emotional component, a question that hooks the audience in, or a statement of unusual, interesting or fascinating facts.

Transition Statement: Statements that help the speaker move graciously from subject to subject. A tie –in from last previous topic to the next topic.

Conclusion: The summary of the main points with a memorable closing that ties back into the introduction statement.
