2. Ethical Conundrums and How We Ought to Solve Them


Think of an ethical debate currently going on today. It can be anything that interests you – for example, the morality of the death penalty, the ethics of climate action, etc. Discuss this issue in the context of: virtue ethics, deontology, and utilitarianism. Explain each of these positions, the strengths/weaknesses of each view, and how each theory might help us solve the ethical problem you are discussing in your paper. Which moral theory is best equipped to solve the problem and why? Do you think you have an absolute answer to the moral questions raised by your situation? Why/why not? What does this mean about ethics more generally? Can we hope to have an ethical theory that give us answers 100% of the time or not?
