Comments on Cyber Warfare
As we advance our discussions on Stuxnet, Articles by Mashkoor (2020) and Winder (2020) acknowledge that Stuxnet caused a drop in the national internet connectivity to 75%. With such drops in network connectivity, cyber attackers managed to sabotage Iranian systems, causing significant disruptions to telecommunications networks. Looking at these trends, I feel that cyber warfare is expected to progressively rise into the future as malware becomes an effective and increasingly utilized contemporary warfare tool that disrupts systems and networks in real-time. I believe that in the future, cyber warfare will shift a notch higher where sophisticated versions of weaponized malware will be utilized to provide high-tech means of targeting countries and exploiting industrial vulnerabilities at alarming rates.
