Strategies for Preventing the Growing Rate of Sexually Transmitted Diseases

Several studies have indicated an elevated risk of sexually transmitted infections for college students in the United States. The STDs’ occurrence remains unacceptably high in the United States despite efforts in screening methods, diagnosis, and treatment. The disease remains the most common transmissible virus in the state, with approximates of new and existing infections adding more than 110 million. For instance, a case study of Texas Southern University indicates that 25% of learners have a sexually transmitted disease. Adolescents aged between 16 to 25 years account for more than half of different sexually transmitted diseases yearly, representing just 25% of the sexually active population (Whiting t al., 2019). There is a need for effective prevention of STDs as a high priority among college learners in the United States.

One of the concept strategies for preventing diseases’ growing rate is to provide sexual health information to college students like those at Texas Southern University. They need precise and comprehensive sex education to evade STDs and alleviate their impacts (Habel et al., 2017). Programs should offer learners accurate information about transmission, symptoms, prevention, and treatment of STDs. It is essential to equip them with skills to talk about their sexual independence healthily and foster healthy relationships, such as promoting condom use and understanding consent. The sexual wellbeing information given ought to be age suitable and respectful of, responsive to a variety of sexual orientations, racial backgrounds, and gender identities.

Policymakers and advocates addressing STDs among college students should support the necessities of those most vulnerable to STDs by access to medical care, confidential services, precautionary technologies, and vaccines (Whiting et al., 2019). Another strategy is to guarantee testing and treatment. Young individuals must get high-quality and accessible STD diagnosis and treatment services to prevent further transmission. Offer preventive care is another strategy that should reduce the growing rate of infection among college students. Public health specialists should approach sexually transmitted diseases from two angles: preventing adolescents from getting the disease in the initial place and averting them from disseminating it to others. Principal preventive methodologies include expedited partner therapy, vaccines, and condoms. The college students should also be guaranteed distinguished and supportive care. Sexual transmitted diseases prevention, diagnosis, and treatment are incredibly stigmatized subjects that adolescents are usually quiet to talk over. Still, insurers and providers can form a setting in which all sufferers feel cared for and respected.

Through the methods listed above, it is possible that when a person goes to seek medical assistance for a problem in hand, they will feel safer, and they will be courageous knowing that no one will look at them with a funny face or look at them in a judgmental manner. It is in line with making sure that this happens that there have been efforts to introduce expedited partner therapy. This is a type of treatment whereby the sex partner is treated for the disease through the other partner who dares to seek medical assistance. Therefore what happens in this program is that one partner who goes to the hospital is given medicine to take to the other partner who is unwilling to go to school. Therefore the treatment happens through one partner acting as the link between the doctors or the hospital and the patient.

Some people have discouraged this as they say that it is essential that a person be checked first. However, as of the current time, it is seen as one of the best ways to solve sexually transmitted infections which have become a big problem to a considerable population for quite some time now. Even though this is practical and is happening with some people, only two sexually transmitted diseases can be treated using the method, i.e., gonorrhea and chlamydia. The center has approved this for disease control prevention (CDC) because it is the only option for treating these patients when they cannot come to the hospitals for treatment due to the varied nature.

American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) acknowledges that it is through the introduction of the treatment without physical presence that the rate of disease transfer and widespread has been lowered. One of the reasons that necessitated this kind of treatment is the increasing infertility rates, especially among ladies and women who cannot come out and seek medical attention (ACOG, 208). The inability to come out and seek medical attention is associated with fear and the deep-rooted feeling that a person did the wrong thing. The patients are always encouraged to stop feeling sorry for the past and face the future with optimism.

Other ways of encouraging that sexually transmitted infections do not make the population lame are through the encouragement of people to use condoms during sexual activity. This is one of the effective campaigns which make it possible for people to use condoms rather than risking themselves on a person whom they are not fully aware of his/ her status. Therefore campaigns like love condoms are entrusted with making people love condoms and therefore use them more. The more they are used, the more there is a high probability of preventing sexually transmitted diseases and infections. Therefore, these kinds of campaigns make it possible to spread sexually transmitted diseases to cease or the rate to go down or just slow. When the spread slows, it is good news for those in the medical field, and it is a sign of a positive reaction to the measure put into place.

The use of vaccines also helps a great deal in facing the challenge of sexually transmitted diseases. According to Dr. Marleen Temmerman, the department of reproductive health at the world health organization, sexually transmitted infections are among the most significant health setbacks. Therefore, it has to be addressed as soon as possible. The use of vaccines is one of the best ways to deal with this issue. When vaccines are used, it becomes straightforward for a person to live a stress-free life knowing that they won’t get the disease they were once so afraid about getting, and therefore their sex life gets better. An STD also prevents a person from enjoying sexual activity, makes it worrying, and therefore focusing on getting a vaccine makes things better for a sexually active age. Therefore in this accord, there has been a lot of increased research in this same area of interest whereby the different institutions, both public and private, are trying to come up with vaccines for different STDs. Therefore it shows that there is a bright future for sexually transmitted disease control and containment.

Another way to make sure that a reduced number of those affected by the different sexually transmitted infections is to make sure that a person knows their status. This is by providing mandatory or free screening at designated areas and times. For example, when it’s a holiday or when a person is joining a college or university, they might be encouraged to go for testing. Therefore, it becomes easier to treat them rather than just waiting in the hospitals for the extreme cases to be brought to the hospital for treatment and management. Several states have tried this, and it works very well. Therefore it is an encouragement for the other states to think of employing this same method to make sure that testing is done and if a person is suffering from a disease, they get treatment as fast as possible.

The encouragement and the mob awareness about these sexually transmitted infections and how to deal with them if they find themselves with them are also essential. This is because it is only when a person knows something when they can deal with it. Therefore this access to information like symptoms and signs is critical. Some teenagers and youths get to have some sexually transmitted diseases, and they do not know if they are suffering from that or what they are supposed to do. Still, with the knowledge, it becomes straightforward for them to solve these challenges and continue with their lives peacefully. In this same awareness creation, it is also essential to create awareness for proper sexual behavior, which helps a person be unable to get these kinds of diseases. Therefore the sexual behavior should be watched keenly, and they are guided in the right manner into what they are supposed to do and how their sexual behavior should be like if they want to avoid some of these diseases.

Society should also change what is believed or known about sexual activities and anything else related to that. When a person feels shame for having a sexually transmitted infection, it means they can almost look for medical attention. Therefore it is essential to encourage and talk openly about sexual behavior, activities, and all the different issues related to it and how they affect a person’s life. This is because sexuality is a core part of human life. If given the attention needed, it becomes straightforward and possible to prevent diseases and infections that make a person ashamed.

Other methods of making sure that the sexually transmitted diseases do not overwhelm the sexually active people and especially the youths are to engage the youth in activities. Through the engagement in different activities, the teenagers or the youths will meet their peers. Once the youth come together, it will be the elder’s work to kick start a conversation about the issue of sexually transmitted infection, they affect them, and what can be done. This way, the research carried out, and information can help make sure that the youth get the information and everything else possible to make it possible for them to prevent the spread of sexually transmitted infections. The teenagers can be excellent agents of this course of action; however, they have to be facilitated and given the full support they need.

Therefore, in conclusion, the above methods, strategies, and ways of action, if encouraged, upheld, and practiced, can help change the sexual beliefs and negative thinking about anyone who might have a sexually transmitted infection and instead be able even to help them get medical support which they need very much. The agents of this change are the parents at home, the teachers and school, and most importantly, the young people’s peers. This is because it is at this age when a person is sexually active that they are likely to contract some of these diseases. The government also has a role to play in availing testing capabilities to all its citizens and ensuring that their health is prioritized.

Chapter One Question

I have chosen chapter one for my journal entry. When well defined, communication competence signifies the knowledge of efficient and appropriate communication patterns and the capacity to use and adapt that knowledge in various settings. The viewpoint of communicative competence is one of the theories that underlie the communicative method to foreign language teaching. The notion of communicative competence grew out of resistance to the notion of linguistic by Noah Chomsky. Contemporary, a number of scholars consider linguistic competence to be part of communicative competence. Presently, the communicative competence theory is built of four competence sectors: sociolinguistic, discourse, linguistic, and strategic. Two of them center on the functional feature of communication, while the additional two mirror the linguistic system’s use.

One example of communication competence is an instance of my younger brother. He engages in turn, talking when in conversation instead of interrupting. He portrays a good competent communicator’s character by knowing when it is the appropriate time to ask questions to further the conversation and read the nonverbal cues. My brother also shows adaptability during his communication in a way that he assesses situations and, when necessary, adapt the expectations and behavior accordingly. He employs communication behaviors that each individual judges to be appropriate to the situation.

The communication competence model is a significant part of the insight process and aids us in comprehending communication events. Communication competence is essential in a way that is required in order to understand communication morals, to grow cultural awareness, to use computer-mediated communication, and to think critically. Competence embroils knowledge, motivation, and skills—the communication competence theory functions. The communicative competence model is used to teach and studying foreign languages and is the result of multiple linguist’s efforts.

Response to Chapter One

In this paper, I have chosen chapter one for my journal entry. When well elucidated, communication competence theory signifies the knowledge of appropriate and effective communication patterns and the capability to practice that knowledge in several contexts. The main theory of the communication approach in language learning is communicative competence: the student’s capacity to comprehend and use linguistic properly to communicate in authentic school and social settings. In terms of linguistics, it signifies to a language user’s linguistic information of phonology, syntax, and morphology in addition to social understanding about when and how to use expressions properly.

Communication competence is required to develop cultural awareness, understand communication ethics, think critically, and to use computer-mediated communication. It involves motivation, knowledge, and skills (DeVito, 2019). An example of a competent communicator is one that will take part in turn-taking when in dialogues instead of interrupting. Such an individual is the one who will know the right time to ask questions to engage in the talking and read nonverbal signs from the receiver to identify when the talk is finished. It usually involves verbal and non-verbal components, but it also relates to several contexts and situations.

Interpersonal communication usually is the communication that happens among individuals who have some understanding of each other and are independent. For instance, it can happen between employer and employee, a son and his father, two friends, a teacher, and a student, and so on. It has an effect on communication in a way that it helps individuals to collaborate, converse, and interact effectively (DeVito, 2019). Typical examples of interpersonal skills include emotional intelligence, active listening, and empathy. Better interpersonal communication generates more worker force recognition. When workers have better interpersonal relations with one another and their bosses, they recognize each other’s good work and positive feedback.

Objectivity, Diversity, Technology, Equity, And History In Relation To the Role of Journalism

Journalistic objectivity is a significant concept within the debate of journalistic professionalism. In journalism, objectivity may refer to factuality, fairness, nonpartisanship, and disinterestedness, but most regularly involves all of these merits. First developing as a practice in the 21st century, several alternatives and critiques to the idea have developed since, powering dynamic and ongoing treatise surrounding the model of objectivity in journalism. Objectivity in journalism purposes to help the audience structure their mind about a piece of news or story, giving the truths only and then allowing audiences to read between the lines on their own (Young & Callison, 2017). To uphold objectivity in journalism, correspondents ought to give the realities whether or not they agree with or like those facts. Objective journalism is intended to depict events and issues unbiased and neutral, irrespective of the writer’s personal beliefs or opinion.

The absence of diversity in journalism can result in broadcasting studios missing out on vital stories. Diverse populations inside news organizations assist in making sure that the ultimate newscast products will voice the broadest likely variety of stories that best meet the addressees’ requirements (Fuentes et al., 2020). The significantly overlooked practice of diversity within news establishments is a diversity of perspectives. It goes further than questions of ethnicity, race, and sexual orientation. News organizations must look for the viewpoints of rural and urban inhabitants, atheists and religious believers, liberals and political conservatives. A diverse outlook on particular subjects will vary from country to country. Several reporters see diversity as a matter that overlays with reporting morals. It might be a business issue and/or a social issue, but they think it is a moral subject since failure to reflect society’s diversity is a problem of precision. If you cover a miscellaneous society, a broadcast report that generally reflects the work, views, and words of a certain group does not precisely reflect the community’s activity and life.

Although it might be entertaining or even interesting, the leading significance of news is to empower the cognizant. Therefore, journalism aims to give people the information they require to create the best potential choices about their communities, lives, governments, and societies. When we discourse about equity in journalism, we signify: supporting organizations functioning to change industry leadership and cultures, devoting in newsrooms led by and serving generally disregarded groups, and closing remarkable resource gaps that patronage has assisted in preserving. To be well-adjusted, outlets require a group of journalists who reflect the diversity of individuals and subjects they cover. Journalists are and need to be multipurpose, but when several bylines are by men, addressees do not obtain the complete story or the perceptions that result from lived experience.

Technology-assisted journalism and innovations, such as the steam engine and the movable type printing press, enabled the extensive implementation of printed news. This tendency of technological invention persisted and enabled innovative mediums of spreading that turn out to be ever cheaper and faster (Fuentes et al., 2020). Lastly, history relates to the role of journalism in the 21st century. It is essential to historians for the reason that it can reflect on the past. It can tell of what individuals were thinking and say about several significant times in the past.

Introduction

Religion is the belief in a superior being who on many occasions is perceived as the giver of life, protector, and punisher and finally the taker of life. There are many religions in this world due to the presence of many cultures. This type of diversity has created the provision for the various ideologies that guide us in our day to day life. What one religion perceives as normal may not be accepted by another religion. We thus have to be aware of the religions that we are exposed to so as to remove the ignorance we bear as a community. America is not a religious country in that it separates the government from the state. This means that most of the religious activities are not supposed to be conducted in public organizations such as schools and the places of work. This rules though intended to bring equality amongst different religions have led to the misconceptions about various religions which has spiraled into hatred. One of the main causes of the religious divisions is the level of ignorance that we have been brought up with. As a member of the community, my goal is to eradicate the growth of this issue by learning about the practices of a different religion (Miroshnik, 2001).

This research paper focuses on my experience from the visit of a place of worship that is different from mine. It looks into the misconceptions that I had about the religion and how the visit to the synagogue changed my perception. The paper discusses whether I believe the misconceptions of other peoples religions are common with an explanation of the position I take. The paper finally concludes by making recommendations on how to minimize the misconceptions explaining my reason.

Discus any misconceptions that you had about the religion

Judaism is one of the most influential religions in the country. The origin of Judaism is traced from Israel whose people are said to be Gods chosen people. Jews have for a long time fallen prey of the most inhumane attacks from time immemorial. There is no clear reason for this series of attacks on members of the communities. This has led to the creation of several misconceptions explaining the treatment of the Jews by the rest of the religions (Diamant, 2010). One of the misconceptions that I had was that the Jews are money minded. Most of the movies I watch portray Jews as accountants in that they are good with budgeting and controlling their finances. Some have gone on to make jokes about the securing ones future through marring a Jew. Although this is not a negative misconception, Jews have on many occasions been persecuted for their connection with being greedy and thus the stereotype has served as a disadvantaged to their community.

Another misconception that I had about the Jewish religion is that Judaism is an ethnicity and not a religion. For a long time I have always associated Jews with a certain appearance that matches the stereotypes that are shown in the movies. Most of the Jews are made out to have curly hair, with a distinctive nose and a thin face. This made me get the impression that to be part of the Jewish religion; one had to match 90% of these characteristics. Through these perceptions, I got the impression that Jews came from the same place and thus formed the Jewish religion forgetting the fact that there are many other nationalities that still practice the religion.

Analyze how your prior misconceptions about this religion was altered through this encounter

My misconceptions about this religion were altered when I visited the synagogue. On my arrival to the place of worship, I was welcomed by the usher at the door who ensured that I we were all sited so that I could receive the teachings from the rabbis’. The teaching of the Jewish religion originates from the books of Torah. During the teachings, emphasis was laid on the importance of practicing good deeds which would be rewarded by God who is the creator of all mankind. One of the most important factors to note about the religion is the fact that the Jews do not base the importance on the statement of the belief. This affects the way the Jews carry themselves on a day to day basis. The practice of the Jewish religions is thus a way of life from the preparation of the food to the way of worship which is all reflective of the teachings of the Torah (Diamant, 2010).

In the case of misconception about Jews being bright, rich accountants, this was changed when I interacted with most of them. I found out that there is more to the career of a Jew in that most of them ventured into other fields that were not related to financing. Some of them had mentioned that they practiced medicine, law and even took on careers that involved sports. The Jews have never been associated with being sporty individuals; they in fact have been at the receiving end of all the jocks showcasing the inability to participate in any sport. Having hands on experience in terms of the interaction with the individuals in the synagogue has exposed me to different features that were hidden from the public by the media.

The misconception concerning the appearance of the Jews has brought about my ignorance about the members of the religion. I noticed that there were Jews from other races who were active followers and participants of the Jewish religion. This exposure brought out the influence the media have on us as a community. Most of the misconceptions that we adapt are as a result of the movies, magazines and articles we read. These sources of information are always misleading to the extent that we form an opinion based on the information we get.

Discus whether you believe the misconceptions about other people’s religions are common and explain why or why not

I do believe that the misconceptions of other people’s beliefs are common. This can be proved by the stereotypes that surround the religion in question. When a person mentions that they are part of a particular group such as Islam, people immediately associate them with being terrorists. This does not give that person a chance to interact with the rest of the community due to the ignorance is perceived about that particular religion. Most of these misconceptions are common to the extent that they have been adopted by a large percentage of the population. These misconceptions have been passed on from generation to generation to the extent that we have made it part of the culture of the religion in question.

As stated earlier, most of the misconceptions that we have about other people’s religions is gauged from the media. The media has the ability to reach a wide array of people due to the advantage of distribution. This has made me come to the conclusion that the misconception that we have as a community are common. Some of them are so common to the extent that if one does not fit into the description of the stereotype they are ruled out as part of a group (Miroshnik, 2001).

Recommendations of the step to take to minimize the misconceptions people have about their religion and explain why

One of the recommendations that I have come up with as a concerned member of the society is the introduction of forums in which we can all represent the religions we practice. Most of the misconceptions that we have adopted have come up as a result of the refusal of people to share our religious practices in public. Although the removal of religious studies in public schools has its advantages, it also makes us ignorant of the different religions we have. Students should thus be encouraged to be inquisitive about different religious practices in the community. Through the constant interactions, members of the community will have the opportunity to form their own perceptions of other religions (Colin & Bahn, 2008).

Conclusion

Educating people about the religions and cultures we practice brings forth a certain level of respect and understanding about the various religions in our society. This in turn is removes the hatred that we have become accustomed to due to the stereotypes that we form due to the misconceptions by inaccurate sources.

History of the Organizations

The William Beaumont Army Medical Center was initially known as the William Beaumont General Hospital, and William Beaumont, an army surgeon, inspired its name. The William Beaumont Army Medical Center in El Paso, Texas, serves as a military medical center for the United States Department of Defense. Summary of the Article

This article outlines the nonpharmacological methods for decreasing parental concern for newborn vaccine-associated pain. According to Abukhaled and Cortez (2021), multiple studies have shown that parents’ worries about their children’s discomfort play a role in their reluctance to vaccinate. Therefore, the authors’ main aim was to address parents’ concerns about pain during newborn vaccination. This article used pre- and post-evidence-based implementation design to conduct the project. To alleviate the discomfort associated with vaccines in babies less than six months, health practitioners at an urban ambulatory clinic used nonpharmacological techniques supported by research. Before and during the introduction of pain management therapies, parental worries about vaccine-related discomfort were evaluated using a validated survey. According to this article, there was a reduction in parental anxiety about vaccination discomfort from the time before the intervention until after it was given, and this change was statistically significant in both treatment groups. Therefore, according to Abukhaled and Cortez (2021), a nurse’s ability to employ nonpharmacological ways to ease vaccine-associated discomfort in newborns is a significant factor in easing parental anxiety. Immunization rates can be improved if newborn pain and parental pressure are reduced.

Main Ideas that Nurses can Take Away

The main idea that nurses should take away after reading this article is that nurses can employ nonpharmacological approaches to ease newborns’ experience while receiving regular immunization successfully, lowering parents’ anxiety over the discomfort connected with vaccines. In addition, nurses should understand that reducing newborn pain and parental stress may boost immunization rates. Also, after reading this article, nurses should learn that despite a vast amount of empirical evidence regarding strategies that effectively relieve pain in newborns, there has been a great deal of inconsistency in the management of baby discomfort during small painful operations. Another thing that nurses should take away is that untreated pain may have negative consequences, including a heightened sensitivity to discomfort during subsequent medical operations, elevated levels of anxiety and altered patterns of behavior, and a reduced capacity to respond favorably to adequate analgesia during painful treatments. Lastly, nurses should understand that they must perform pain management interventions so that parents can be less concerned about their babies’ pain during vaccination.

How the Article Represents QSEN competencies

The QSEN initiative seeks to address the pressing need to equip the next generation of nurses with the necessary skills, knowledge, and practice they will need to ensure continuous improvement in the safety and quality of the healthcare delivery systems in which they operate. Some of the QSEN competencies have been represented in this article. For example, the article has described QSEN’s competency in patient-centered care by addressing that it is an ethical obligation for nurses to provide pain relief to patients. The article points out that nonpharmacological approach to pain treatment are preferable since they are less intrusive than pharmaceutical options and fall squarely within the scope of the nursing profession. Besides, when healthcare providers work to alleviate patients’ pain, they also advocate for the patients they serve, who often rely on their caregivers for their fundamental needs.

The article also represents teamwork and collaborative QSEN competency. It incorporates attachment theory, created by the collaborative work of Mary Ainsworth and John Bowlby, which proposes that early nurturing relationships between a mother and her child help the young child learn to control their emotions and empathize with others. In addition, the article represents quality improvement competency through its data collection, analysis, and patient outcome analysis. Lastly, the article represents Evidence-based practice by utilizing evidence-based nonpharmacological.

How the Article Addresses Issues of Accountability in Nursing

Accountability is essential in nursing because it reduces fear, increases trust, and improves performance and morale. This article has addressed the issues of accountability, especially ethical accountability in nursing, by pointing out that it is both an ethical and moral obligation for nurses to alleviate their patients’ suffering by providing pain relief. In addition, this article addresses professional accountability by insisting that nurses and other medical practitioners should utilize nonpharmacological pain management approaches since they are effective, safe, and entirely within the nurses ‘scope of practice.

Ethical and Legal Issues Arising from the Article

This article has followed all the ethical and legal considerations related to article writing and conducting clinical research. For example, the article shows authorship, publication, etiquette, and honesty. Besides, the authors have shown citations of where they got information; thus, this article is based on facts.

How Reading this Article Affected My Understanding

After reading this article, I understood that a nurse’s fundamental responsibility is to ensure that every patient gets the kind of immediate and appropriate attention necessary for their condition. Nurses accomplish this mission in a variety of different ways. Additionally, nurses evaluate and determine the requirements of patients, after which they put the patient’s medical plan into action and oversee their care. In addition, through this article, I realized that nurses need to know how to manage infant vaccine pain effortlessly since it is a significant concern to the parents.
