Nursing practice has demonstrated a trend characterized by an increased global need for effective nursing care. With the continuous evolution of nursing practice in correspondence with escalating healthcare knowledge, sociopolitical environment, global healthcare need, nursing practice warrants consistent evaluation (Brewer, 2018). The nursing practice among Appalachians and Arabs exhibits the role of cultural beliefs and practices influences in community care. These two are among the United States communities that have shown strict adherence to cultural values and beliefs.

Cultural beliefs among these two communities have also influenced the delivery of care in terms of examination approaches. For instance, touch from the opposite gender is prohibited among Arabs (Denham, 2016). Additionally, touching the head of a patient of Arab descent is prohibited as they believe the spirits reside in this body part (Denham, 2016). These cultural beliefs and practices may thus hinder a thorough physical examination that would lead to proper diagnosis and consequently effective treatment.

A health practice among the Arabs and Appalachians that negatively affects the delivery of care is their relatively fatalistic view of health and death. That is, these groups of communities believe that humans have very little control of their healing and death and that one’s fate is mostly determined by luck and chance (Denham, 2016). This attribute negatively impacts healthcare since people from these communities are more likely to demonstrate poor cooperation with healthcare interventions and thus unsatisfactory health outcomes (Brewer, 2018). Another health practice is folk medicine that entails such aspects as the ingestion of kerosene and herbal preparations. These substances negatively impact healthcare delivery as they are unquantified and not assessed to determine their effectiveness. As such, both health practices render community care a daunting task that poses a major challenge.
