Analyzing Tyson Foods

Analyzing Tyson Foods

I have been assigned to analyze Tyson Foods using four different ratios. Below I am pasting the directions straight from the assignment. I will also attach the powerpoint for Chapter 13 and the assignment template!

“In compliance with the communicative and critical thinking goals of the class, you will be required to submit a 1-page written research paper (a.k.a ‘Company Analysis’) covering a publicly traded company assigned to you in the middle of the semester. This assignment will represent the remaining 20% of your final grade and is worth 100 points. The paper will adhere to a prescribed format. Failure to complete this assignment will be regarded as a failure to meet the requirements of the course and will result in an overall final grade of an “F”. Your task will be to review and analyze the assigned company from an investor’s perspective.

Guidelines:

  • What do you need to do: Your essay needs to follow the 1-page template attached. For each ratio that you choose from each building block, you will have to use the analysis tools we covered in Ch. 13 (horizontal, vertical, or ratio analysis) and one or more standards (intracompany, competitor, industry, and guidelines) to analyze your company. In the conclusion (last para), you will have to indicate whether you would invest in the company or not and explicitly state why.
  • Just mentioning ratios in your response or defining them is not what this essay is about. You will lose a lot of points if you don’t interpret and compare the ratios based on various analysis tools and standards of comparison. You need to interpret the ratios based on your analysis. The more tools you use and the more comprehensive your analysis, the more points you get!
  • Important tips:
  •
    • Please ensure you indicate the periods and the numbers for your ratios clearly in your write-up. If you use horizontal analysis (e.g., trends), you need to analyze the information for at least 4 periods.
    • If you compare the ratios for your company to a competitor or the industry average, please ensure that the competitor you select is more or less in the same business or your company fits appropriately in that industry. Please ensure you mention the competitor’s name or describe the industry appropriately if using competitor ratios or industry averages for comparison, respectively.
  • Where to find information for your company: You can use one or more of the following sources – Zacks.com, WSJ.com, Macrotrends.net (if you use other sources, please specify). These websites have ratios in addition to what we have covered in Ch. 13 (Please ensure you do not analyze ratios that we didn’t cover in Ch. 13).
  • Formatting requirements (you will lose points for formatting errors):
    • Times New Roman in 11 point
    • Text should be single-spaced.
    • Have 1-inch margins on all sides of the page
    • Justify all paragraphs so that the text is aligned with both margins
    • Do not leave any additional space between each paragraph.”
